What more can I say about this establishment. I was blessed to be in the presence of the owner and daughter of this reputable Italian restaurant. When I arrived to the place, I didn't think much of it. I thought it was just another place to buy a cheesesteak. But oh no, was I caught off guard and was very surprised.
I was greeted very well by both, Mr. Vito(aka. "Bert" as everyone calls him) and his daughter. I went to the easy-to-read menu board and ordered a cheesesteak with fries. While I was waiting on my food, I started talking to Mr. Vito (who doesn't like to be called mister) and his daughter and the stories he told me were amazing.
I love the father and daughter interaction while he was telling me his story, and I love how his daughter was backing up his stories. Mr. Vito explained to me about his cooking methods and how he preps for the day, and while I was waiting on my food to be prepared, Mr. Vito showed me the way he cooks.
His daughter is a real salesman, she introduced me to her father's newest creation, "The Vegi Chicken Burger." It's made from real chicken where he pulls out all the fat and other parts of the chicken.
Anyway, I ordered the Vegi Chicken Burger and it was so good. This chicken burger is not a regular chicken patty that you get from some grocery store or food warehouse, this chicken burger is made in house and it's a perfectly thick portion of a patty.
If you need to change how you eat and want food that will not raise your blood pressure, (Vito told me that he does not add seasonings to his food but will add seasoning upon request) then I suggest you come down to Bert's Steak & Sub House, a real and authentic...
Read moreI’ve ranked 33 cheesesteak places in the Philly area. Ironically the top 2 are in Camden with Bert’s being #2. I’ve been here almost a dozen times. Love the people that run this place. My review from 2 years ago:
The first time I ever tried it, it was a very solid, well-rounded, filled cheesesteak at a cheap price point (7.95 with peppers). What I wrote my first review after having been twice still stands, "Really good cheese, really good steak, really good peppers, good and light, fluffy bread and great balance of them all. The flavors just come together super well, and I always finish craving more! Then, factor in the really good price and you got Bert's." The second time is really what put Bert's on the pedestal for me. Does it have that strong, powerful cheesesteak flavor that some others do like Geno's or Tony Luke's? Maybe not, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It depends on the mood and taste. Ultimately, Bert's just doesn't disappoint and gives you one of the most, if not the most, well rounded cheesesteak around, consistently. I dare call it the Porsche or Tom Brady of...
Read moreI’ve been ordering here for years and the food has always been okay at best but now it’s not even competing with corner store food/bodega food quality or portion and charging even more. A burger with just cheese and fries and tiny chicken tenders with fries EXTREMELY small portion is $25 . A bacon egg & cheese is $10 and the owner says it’s because he adds 4 eggs and not 1 egg like the corner stores…how does ONE fill up an entire long roll ? Clearly he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and doesn’t know what vendors have around him because the corner stores add 4 eggs because I watched them after he said that and only charge $4 for the same exact sandwich. 7 tenders and cheese fries are only $8 at the corner store and their amazing it’s a full platter. To some it up if you’re looking for quality don’t go to this “steak place” dominoes would be better and that’s saying a lot . It’s overpriced , undercooked & equally as good as gas station food. Save your money and...
