Freddy's use to be my go to! Especially in the early 2000's! But overtime their food has truly gone downhill. I ordered Alcapurrias, Pepper Steak and Rice, and a Passion Fruit Drink. The Passion fruit drink was amazing! It was cold and slushy, and you can see the specs from all the Passion fruit. It wasn't artifical and was made with fresh fruit.
As for the Steak and Rice, the steak was seasoned well. It had tons of flavor, but also tons of fat. Peppers were hardly there, but overall it was good! Now the rice on the other hand, was overly dry and bland. It lacked flavor and moisture. At one point I thought and asked myself if this is like Goya box rice. It was decent, and did the job with the steak, but I definitely won't be breaking my neck to order again.
Lastly, the Alcapurrias. I ordered the yuca, and looking at them, I thought they were going to be amazing. I went to bite into it, and could barely get through the outside! It was stale on top of being over cooked, that it felt almost completely solid. I was so disappointed. I thought to myself maybe its cold, even though it felt warm to the touch. I warmed it in the microwave for like 7 seconds, but yea, completely stale. I ended up throwing it in the trash. $6 gone right down the drain.
Overall, I definitely won't be back. It seems as if they don't care anymore, and food is too expensive to keep paying for stuff that's mid. You can see in the pictures how bland and dry the food was for $24.
La Cocina in pennsauken is a much better alternative, and they actually care about the taste of their...
Read moreI have been doing business with Freddy’s for many years and never had a complaint, until now. Under the new ownership, the restaurant has become completely unreliable. I booked catering for a very important event over a month in advance. Despite repeated requests, I had to practically beg them to send me the invoice so my company could approve it. I confirmed the order and delivery time a full seven days before the event. On the day of the event, just one hour before it was supposed to begin, I contacted them only to find out they had forgotten my order entirely. Their excuse was that they “called the company and no one answered.” This is unacceptable. They had both my cellphone number and my email, yet not once did they try to contact me directly. If the order was confirmed, why use that excuse? This type of negligence caused unnecessary stress and could have ruined my event. Freddy’s is no longer the reliable restaurant it once was. I strongly advise others not to trust them with any...
Read moreAlways loved Freddy's. Staff is friendly. Food is reasonable and good. What more can you ask for?
I notice sometimes the flavors are inconsistent. It's never bad but some days is better than others. On those days you eat it and want to go back for more but on the off days you still eat it but you're just cool with what you ordered.
This is a cash only spot. You must always be mindful of that. I refuse to use ATMs that charge me for my own money so if I'm almost there and don't have cash I'll pass for another day.
Also, they have a menu. Don't just rely on what you see behind the partition cafeteria style..
Try stuff. You can order various sizes if you're unsure. Get a small and see if you like it and if you choose to order from the menu I suggest calling ahead bc you'll have to wait a lil bit. It's never super long though.
Trust me, you'll see many places of this sort nearby who all specialize in one thing or another but Freddy's hands down is the...
