I decided to try the Latin American Restaurant— not to be confused with the similarly named Latin America Restaurant on Market Street— on the recommendation of a friend who tried it as part of a class assignment about a month ago. She highly recommended it, and so I had high hopes upon going there yesterday— for reference, Friday, April 14th. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. My friend had recommended that I either call and order ahead of time or go after lunch. Apparently the place gets pretty packed, and so I waited until about 2:30 before heading over. There were few people there, and all but one of the tables— there are only four— were unoccupied. I took a few friends along with me, and the one— a native Spanish speaker— began talking with the staff, all of whom were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Because the restaurant is in Camden, I think it is important to note that not only was the staff friendly, but the restaurant was also very clean and well taken care of. Nor did I ever once feel uncomfortable or unsafe in the area. There’s a lot of stigma surrounding the city— at least, surrounding neighborhoods that aren’t downtown— that prevent people from venturing to businesses like the Latin American Restaurant, but this shouldn’t prevent one from trying some of the local restaurants. As I mentioned above, it was nearly empty, and so our only wait was for our meals to be put together. I ordered a boneless grilled chicken breast and black rice, while my friends tried the fried chicken, steak, mofongo, and plantains. For those of you who may not find any of those choices appetizing, they also offer pork, goat, and ribs, along with some seafood. I cannot speak for my friends— although I can say they all seemed to have really enjoyed their meals— but I thought the food was great. The chicken was well-cooked, juicy, and flavorful, and I loved the black rice, which also included black beans mixed in. Overall, I would recommend trying the Latin American Restaurant whenever you get a chance. So many people in the area frequent Chipotle, Pancheros, Qdoba, and On the Border on a regular basis, yet never even think to try authentic hispanic food. Instead of going to one of the aforementioned chains, next time you get a craving for hispanic food take a trip to the Latin American Restaurant. I’m sure you’ll find it very much...
Read morePoor customer service. I ask for medium side of beans and a small white rice and paid $9.05. I found it expensive but I still paid. When I got home I poured the beans in a pot to found that it was all liquid and only 15 beans. I immediately called to express my concern and the female said it was impossible the I was charged $9.05. I took the food back and the girl ask for my receipt. Ha ha check your camera and it will show what I Gave you. The money was returned. I did not go back for the money I wanted them to see what I was served but they made it all about the money. The female over charged me. So I’m assuming that other customers are being overcharged as while. Customer service don’t care about the quality of food they are providing because they did not address the problem...
Read moreDO NOT ORDER DOORDASH with this restaurant every time we order DoorDash with this place they never could get the order right. For one I order black beans not brown beans and they charged $16 for sancocho and it comes in a tiny little container that looks like it should of costed $6 not $16 soo not worth that price for as little as you get. then to top off they didn’t even put corn in the soup like in their picture it was just a lot of beef and 1 banana in there that’s it. At least the beans taste okay not like last time that it tasted like it had gone bad. The rice and chicken always taste okay. But seriously the orders on DoorDash needs to be done right yall need to start training your employees right on how to prepare the food and to properly go over what’s being ordered and special...
