I am not an expert on what constitutes soul food, but I felt something in the food that is hard to put into words. The place is under new management and the service is courteous and most importantly friendly. I had the whiting and my friend had the trout which were both tasty. The bite had a nice crunch and the fish was seasoned wonderfully. But let me be clear, the stars of the show were the side dishes. I am not a mushroom fan, but these were delicious. Not to be outdone were the collard greens which were cooked in something very savory. The mashed potatoes had a gravy that is worth mentioning. The kale was delicious as well. The macaroni and cheese is something I regret not ordering an extra side just to take home. If it did make it home it wouldn't last long. Something tells me I need to go back and try the Turkey leg and ribs as it seemed most of the locals were enjoying it.
A return visit is in the works to try their breakfast sandwiches and wings.
However you define soul food, consider me now a big fan. You are in...
Read moreI’ve been a patron of this establishment for many years. They used to have really good food. My favorite was. Their fried catfish it was superb. But recently they have changed staff and the recipe. I ordered my usual catfish and it was the worst fish I’ve ever eaten! It tasted like baking soda! The batter was gross and thin. They used to use cornmeal and seasoning not what taste like baking soda and flour. It’s disappointing that home cooked taste is now gone. I also recently tried their meatloaf, turkey wings and kale. All of them were not something I would ever eat again. The turkey wings wer fry and also lacked seasoning maybe they sat out too long. The meatloaf had a mushy consistency like they used minimal meat and it also had that baking soda arm and hammer flavor. It’s sad but I guess this good staple is no...
Read moreI passed by this place a lot because of another store across the street. Ate there for the first time and had fried catfish, fried chicken, kale and collard greens. The food was better than I expected. The batter they used on the catfish and chicken was perfectly seasoned. Greens were seasoned well too. I spoke to the owners and they tell me breakfast was their big seller. If breakfast is better than the fish and chicken, I'm prepared to be blown away. I read a few reviews about this place...drive through takes a while because food is made to order. Expect to wait, but also expect your food to be hot and tasty. Not soggy and old. Also, the woman that gave bad service is no longer working there. I will definitely be back. Oh, and I think the owner are fairly new, so ignore older reviews about service....
