Upon our arrival my wife and I were immediately greeted by the staff. They were very personable and engaging and humored my dad jokes with a smile that felt genuine...probably because I'm hilarious (I'm funny no matter what my kids think!).
Soon after we were seated, Mariah introduced herself to us and patiently answered our questions which included settling a debate regarding the differences between Mandi and Zurbian rice between my wife and me. Like usual my wife was right and I wasn't wrong...just not as right as her. At any rate Mariah was really personable and seemed to really know her stuff. She even offered a suggestion that made our dinner even better.
Please be aware that if you’re looking for authentic Yemeni cuisine you should pay close attention to the menu and/or ask the waitstaff, otherwise you will enjoy regular Middle Eastern cuisine that while delicious it isn’t distinctly Yemeni.
The portions were generous and so delicious, we had more than enough and were able to take food home after ordering the platter for two. The meal began with a salad that had a light and delicious and unique house dressing that had a hint of ginger in it. We ordered a combination platter that had haneeth. I’m not a fan of lamb meat but the way their chef magically prepared it made it so delicious, tender, and flavorful using an amazing blend of spices. Haneeth is a slow cooked process that allows the meat to fully absorb every distinctive note of flavor from the spices that make for a savory orchestra on the palate. The result is a juicy and flavor filled portion of lamb shoulder that fell off the bone ever so easily and seemingly melted with every bite. We also enjoyed some fahsa which is a hot pot of tender lamb meat steeping in a flavorful and seasoned soup and sahaweg (Yemeni chutney/salsa) added to make it just spicy enough. It’s enjoyed by dipping their amazing housebread and scooping out the meat and veggies; be careful contents are extremely hot upon arrival.
Throughout the whole dining experience, the waitstaff led by Ali and Mariah checked in on us but not to the point where it was a disturbance.
We capped the evening out by enjoying a cup of Adeni tea and a slice of Turkish caramel milk cake which is a must after a hearty meal. The cake was so moist and wasn't overpowered with sweetness because it relies on its flavor as opposed to a ton of sugar, don't get me wrong it was sweet (mostly from the caramel), just not saturated like most other cakes.
The decor we well-appointed and emphasized and open and clean concept with some art that emphasized Yemeni culture. Overall, this was a great dining experience, and the value was well worth it especially considering the quality of the food and service. We felt like valued guests throughout our evening and will definitely be...
Read moreFirst off the food is great, so the standard of Sheeba is well maintained. The parts I didn't like was wait time for seating, one hostess sat people who came after us, on a table of four and we were party of four. One hostess who was taking our order was said whatever we wanted to eat was out or finished for the night lentil soup, hummus, or juice. The did not state juice can't be made cuz the machine is not here, she just said we are out. As we were about to leave the manager came told us to sit down and they will treat us to authentic yemeni dinner on the house. Than we were asked what we would like, I said anything but no lamb, they said u have to try our lamb, I said OK pls than get us something chicken as well. They brought us the platter of 2, 2 types of salads and one chicken dish. It was all good the food was flavorful no complaints there, but the fact when we were served a bill, we are like what? But even than I said it's OK I was going to pay them something, I opened the bill to see, we got charged $225, we looked at each other did we just eat gold? An other incompetent hostess mistake oh sorry that's not your bill, I said OK, than she goes back brings our bill of $80 with a $15 discount. Totalling our bill to $69 something with tax. I was like I am not going to argue, we paid! The whole point is we didn't come out to eat the food we were offered but we paid for it when we didn't even place an order. And than we are billed for it. That's just wrong way to conduct business. It's Muslim Halal food place but deception can only take you so long. It's sad I have to say this, but that's an honest opinion.
None of the hostess are wearing a name tag, they are all confused only one greeted us with smile. Place is crowded and small but everything is new and sparkling, the bathroom were clean for the amount of ppl at the place. The beautiful decor does feel clean and authentic. Wish my first experience was better, the desserts are also great and we were given them for free and also served with Yemeni tea. The owner is a great guy, but he's not the one who told us about free dinner. So I don't...
