Charkies — Restaurant in Carol Stream

Have been to this place 3 times their soups are great their Greek potatoes are outstanding, but their beef nope would not waste my money on. There seems to be two groups running this place, the first two times I went was one group very friendly very customer service driven. Even though the Italian beef smelled like yesterdays leftover beef I went for a 3rd time. We ate in and got the homemade vegie soup outstanding, but when my meal arrived the Greek potatoes were great but the chicken kabob I got was not Chicken it was Pork. I hate pork with a passion, and I know when I taste pork. My husband went to inform the manager that it was not chicken kabob it was pork. New manager and cashier this time I assume it was the owner and his wife, the smile turned very stern and both touched the platter and insisted it was chicken and handed it back to my husband to bring back to me. Not once did they offer to fix something in its place, I spent $10 for my platter left it on the table and left the restaurant hungry had to go home and fix myself something to eat, I should have done that to start with. If you see the short dark headed man and his wife running the place you better be sure you order something you like or you will be just handing them your money then going home to fix yourself something else to eat. Nope won't be returning back and will not recommend to anyone I know. if this man continues to run this place this place will close very soon. The tall manger should be running the place the short one and his wife need to be in the back away...

I don’t normally leave reviews but I felt inclined to do so. One the place is extremely neat and clean. Two, while I was waiting for my order a lady came up for a to go container. As the lady walked away, the man I assume is either the manager or owner said “how was the chicken”. She seemed happily surprised he remembered and said it was great. It takes a certain kind of person to be that fantastic. This is the same gentleman who took my order and was professional and friendly. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken minus the anchovies because I love my coworkers 😂. I got my salad to go and even in the container it was pretty and tasted great. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Bonus there was no water at the bottom of my container like some places tend to do. Overall, I would give this a 10 out of 10 and will be back again. For a year and a half I used to go here every day when I worked in the area. They've got pretty much everything on their menu no matter what you feel like eating, but 90% of the time I always went with my favorite, the chicken kabob sandwhich. I've been to a couple more fancy mediterranean restaurants while out on survey on business trips since, but nothing compares to the sandwich I would always get here.

The combination of the juice from the chicken, with the roasted vegtables and sauce is amazing. Relatively healthy and great tasting. Excellent food. Great prices and really nice people that worked here. They used to give free soup if you dine in and all the soups were great. Not sure if this is still the case. Also really enjoyed their baklava.
