I had a business meeting in Saginaw from Lansing and decided at the last minute to grab some baked goods to share. Google maps gave me some choices of stops along the way, and Maria Elena's grabbed my attention. I am so glad I stopped! These goodies were so tasty!! She had four different flavors of empanadas ❤️ and the cookies were amazing. Everything was very affordable. I will stop again.

Great little spot. I’m coming from Tampa and have been spoiled with good Mexican food so it was nice to find this place. Got the steak corn tacos dinner and they were stuffed full and delicious.

I think the quesadilla was lacking a bit of cheese for my taste, but that could just be because I ordered it with PURELY cheese, so idk. BUT THE TACOS, oh the tacos. To me at first it looked like it could be a little dry for my taste (I love very soupy tacos) but boy I was wrong, and it's not like they were soupy or anything they just hit DIFFERENT, like the taste was awesome but the weird thing is I've never tasted them like that before (even know I've had them with the same ingredient like ground beef but still just different and right) so that was my fav part of my meal. The weird thing is since it's different it's not like they're worse or better than anything I've had before, in fact they'd prolly make a list of top 3 i would think, but they were just different in such a right way. Bravo. Also, love that this place is also a bakery, very convenient and honestly a very good business decision cuz that area doesn't really seem to have many if any bakeries other than this one. Nice way to bring something cool to that community and just great business and outside decoration overall. Will be eating again when I stop being lazy and walk a measly 15 minutes to here again. Also might be my go-to for bakery stuff now, yay! I think I'll also try some new things next time as well lol I have a picky taste (hence why I ordered plain quesadilla and...

Maria Elena’s Bakery is a hidden gem for truly authentic Mexican food and baked goods. As someone who lived in Houston, I’ve had my fair share of amazing Mexican cuisine—and this place absolutely holds its own. The flavors were rich, fresh, and clearly made with care. Everything I tried was on point.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming—exactly what you’d hope for in a local spot like this. It felt like the kind of place where regulars feel at home.

The gentleman working the counter was polite and handled everything just fine, though the interaction felt a little off—not rude by any means, just slightly distant. Maybe it was an off moment, who knows? It didn’t take away from the overall experience though, which was overwhelmingly positive.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for real, authentic Mexican food that...

I’ve been coming here for years, and this place never disappoints! The tortillas are always fresh and delicious, and the tamales are some of the best around. The barbacoa is right on point — perfectly seasoned and served in containers now (no more messy foil, which I really appreciate).

What really stands out is the hardworking team in the back — the same dedicated people who’ve been there for years, putting their heart and hands into every meal. You can truly taste the care and tradition in their food.

The only downside is that the food runs out fast — but honestly, that just shows how good it is! It’s definitely a first come, first serve kind of place, and totally worth it every time. Keep up...
