I've been driving throughout the US over the last couple of years, and my advice to travelers - take the time to get off the beaten path and explore a bit. I did this on a trip from Nashville to upstate New York, stopping at Rowlett's Milkhouse Creamery inn Campbellsburg, Kentucky, and I was so happy I did!
Vibe: It's an ice cream stand, simple as that. There are picnic tables outside, so you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. But what made the vibe so special - the brother and sister team of Terry and Sharron Rowlett - two of the nicest and sweetest people you could meet. I loved hearing their story and how they started the business - it's small businesses like this that are essential to the fabric of our economy.
Service: I think I captured that above in the vibe. Uber personable and friendly.
Food: I am a huge fan of Coffee Ice Cream and so happy that they had this as a option. It was DELISH! I also had a scoop of Cookies & Cream - super good as well. Their flavors aren't fancy or exotic, but you don't need fancy or exotic to make great ice cream - just great ingredients and a love for what you do. I also bought a brick of unsalted butter - there is nothing better than use farm-fresh butter when cooking.
I highly recommend making a detour to Rowlett's Milkhouse Creamery if you're driving along Interstate 71 from Louisville to Cincinnati, you will be happy you did!

Read moreAfter reading good reviews about this creamery, I had to experience it for myself. This is a really nice place and the lady behind the counter was helpful and friendly. I didn't have the ice cream because I went there to buy the cheese and butter that I heard so much about. After returning home with my purchase I took a slice from each of the three different blocks of cheese. I was disappointed. All three different cheese's tasted exactly the same. Flavorless and bland. I tried the butter the next morning on toast and I had the same experience. For the money I paid for this product I hoped for more. I hope the ice...
Read moreThis is the best ice cream I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Mr. Rowelett gave me a sample of his vanilla ice cream on day. It was so good that myself and a co worker purchased about $150 worth of assorted flavors and cheese. Each one is unique and spectacular. Not too many creamery’s left and I will support this place for the rest of my life and recommend to everyone. True Kentucky gem. Next order will be more ice cream, cheese and can not sleep on his butter too. Thank you from everyone over at Albert L Crush in...
