I recently purchased a classic mocha cake that promised a delightful blend of coffee flavors, but it turned out to be a disappointing experience. The cake cost me around $50, which was overpriced for cake but still thought it could be reasonable for a high-quality dessert. Unfortunately, it was anything but.
From the first bite, it was clear that something was off. The cake was dry and lacked the rich, moist texture one expects from a well-made mocha cake. The coffee flavor was barely detectable, overshadowed by an overwhelmingly artificial taste that left an unpleasant aftertaste. The chocolate component was similarly lackluster, tasting more like low-grade cocoa than the smooth, decadent chocolate I had hoped for.
The presentation, while decent, could not redeem the overall poor quality of the cake. Despite its attractive exterior, the interior revealed a subpar product that did not justify its price tag. After a few bites, I realized the cake was not salvageable and ended up having to throw it away. It was a waste of both money and anticipation.
Spending $50 on a cake that ended up in the trash was incredibly frustrating. I had expected a delightful treat to share with friends and family, but instead, I was left with a bitter taste and a sense of regret. I would not recommend this classic mocha cake to anyone and will be seeking other options for my dessert needs...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve given this TLJ three separate chances to impress me, mostly because Iām a glutton for punishment and occasionally for cake. Iāve tried their cloud cakes and tiramisu, both of which look like they belong on a magazine cover and taste like they were designed for one. Presentation earns a respectable 4 out of 5. Flavor and value get a sad little 2 out of 5, especially considering the price of this very average experience.
Service is as dry as the sponge layers, and apparently you canāt even preorder cakes anymore because of a āshortage of staff.ā Translation: they simply stopped trying. For a place this expensive, youād expect at least a smile or a crumb of enthusiasm.
Itās surprising TLJ is still in business. My best guess is that H-Mart keeps them around out of nostalgia or pity. Thereās a lot of room for improvement if they want to be known for more than just looking good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDo not waste your time with the confetti cake!!! This place used to be the best. I guess it's another business that's gone downhill since COVID. I usually get a blueberry yogurt cake or mango cloud cake but this visit they didn't have. The shelves used to be stocked with beautiful cakes and pastries but not now. There were only 2 confetti cakes . I purchased one of the small cakes for 32.00. it was dry and disgusting!! It supposedly had a lemon buttercream icing but there was no taste of that and to make it worse the cake tastes like grease and plastic. It was absolutely disgusting...like disturbingly disgusting. It was my fault for trying something new. You still can't preorder cakes so its basically hoping to get something when you get there.
Pros: cake was beautiful
Cons: Cake was dry Tasted like plastic(chemicals) Didn't taste anything like how it was...
