We decided to get dinner here since it had the best reviews for steak in Casper. There was a wait for tables inside, so we sat on the patio since we are traveling with our one year old and didn't want to wait that long for dinner. In hindsight, I wish we had waited to sit inside, maybe then we would have had a better experience.
We ended up waiting almost an hour for our dinner after my salad arrived. By the time our steaks were brought to the table, my daughter was exhausted and grumpy after being there for 1.5 hours. The steaks were slightly pink (we ordered medium rare), barely warm and the potatoes were cold. As soon as the food was dropped, our table was literally swarmed with flies. There had been many of them buzzing around while we waited, but I'm not joking there was a dozen of them landing on our food at every moment so that we had to constantly wave our hands around to keep them off of the food. There were these little rotating fans on each table that did nothing to keep the flies away, they just awkwardly got in the way of eating. The food tasted good, but as I said before it was cold and we couldn't enjoy ourselves while battling the flies and trying to keep our tired baby happy. Within five minutes we asked to take our dinner to go and ended up eating the rest in our hotel room, where I realized that I didn't get the bread that was supposed to come with my dinner. Not exactly the relaxing experience that we had hoped, paying over $100 for dinner at the end of a long day of driving.
I used to manage a busy restaurant. If I knew there was a family experiencing such a long wait, I would have stopped by their table to chat, apologize and offer something for the baby to snack on to help keep them (and the parents) as happy as possible. And I definitely would have kept an eye on their food and gotten it to their table asap, while it was still hot. Our waitress was nice and said sorry about the wait, but she didn't seem very busy and someone else dropped off our food.
I wouldn't go to this restaurant again, even if we were able to sit inside. There wouldn't be a mass of flies inside (hopefully) but waiting almost an hour for expensive cold...
Read moreTonight was my fourth time here. I usually sit on the patio with my service dog and everything is fine. However, when I went in tonight, the host(ess), an overweight man in a pink shirt with with a grey streaky beard, told me that they were not dog friendly. I told him I've been there 3 times already and there's never been any problems, and also that he is my service dog. He quite rudely told me that they don't allow ANY dogs, and then asked me, "would you like to talk to my supervising manager?" and he said it in this way like I was gonna be scared of talking to a manager and run away. So I said, "Yes!" So she eventually came out to talk to me. She said, "We usually put people with service animals on the patio (which I requested), but then said he would have to be tied to the outside of the patio railing! I told her no, and was eventually seated outside in a corner area (which I requested) and everything went just fine. My service animal was a perfect gentleman, and I paid my ticket and left in a very polite yet agitated mood. I don't understand why people disrespect service animals and the people who need them. Like, you wouldn't tell a blind person or someone in a wheelchair, "We don't serve your kind here." but somehow it's ok to discriminate against us? Not all wounds are visible.
Anyway, the food here is mediocre and overpriced. I usually get this mahi fish dish with capers and a yummy sauce and it's actually pretty ok. Tonight I got the bacon wrapped scallops, and they were unfortunately very small and unimpressive. They must have been 3/4 to 1" in diameter, and they were like $40 for 4. The whole plate was mostly this creamed corn which was not really that great.
I want to be clear. Most of the people that have served me here were very pleasant, despite the overpriced, under-flavored food. I found them to be quite pleasant. But tonight was so embarassing I won't ever come back. I don't want a reply, free food, or an apology. I just wanted a little understanding...
Read moreFirst, let me start off with I take my reviews seriously. I give Fire Rock 4/5 stars. Now let me explain why. Before I get to that, I want to say I ordered a prime rib that was medium. It was tender, juicy, and decently seasoned that didn't taste like a flavorless hunk of flesh. The au jus wasn't there just to be a decoration. It served its purpose as a dipping sauce, but I had to add additional salt and pepper to bring out the flavor. It enhanced the experience and brought out flavor that had been marinated into the meat. However, that marinated flavor was barely there. I go by the standard that if you need to add something to a steak or prime rib, then you cooked it wrong. This leads me to my 4/5 stars. I couldn't have eaten the prime rib by itself without eating a somewhat flavorless piece of meat. It NEEDED the au jus in order to shine, and I don't like that. I feel like the au jus should be optional, not required. The ambiance was quite enjoyable, but my biggest problem, that is it was quite loud due to people at the bar being quite loud. I'm not exaggerating either. I had my phone volume all the way up, and I still couldn't hear the video. I gave up after a while. My next point is that what you see is a 16 oz prime rib with ONE side and cost $46 plus tax, and that's just the entree. A drink will set you back $3.50 plus tax. I'm not saying don't go here, far from it the service was great, but make it a rare occasion that's set aside for birthdays, proposals, or graduations so you don't...
