Playing this course the past weekend was an absolutely massive letdown. Had 3 groups on a Saturday, which was also their first Saturday open for the season. So you would assume they would be prepared, dialed in, and at their best. I have so many negatives that I’m just going to do bullet points.
check in was just fine. Paid for large bucket. Went to get my bucket from cart barn crew. The guy went to hand me the bucket and instead of just handing to me like normal, he sets it at my feet. I go to pick it up and the handle on the basket broke of spilling almost all the balls. Neither him, or the other 2 cart barn employees helped me pick them up
check in with starter ahead of time and he tells us they are 30-40 minutes behind. We end up teeing off 37 minutes after our tee time
no waters in the carts, no water station around the clubhouse. We get to the I believe 3rd or 4th hole before we find a water station, no cups. Not even a cup holder. So we all waterfall water on our hands and knees because it was so hot out
we were harassed all day by the Marshall about slow play. Why he was giving us a hard time is ridiculous considering they were 40 minutes behind at the start and we not once, not ONCE, we didn’t have to wait on our next shots. This was the slowest round of golf I have had ever played, clocking in at 5 hours and 42 minutes, and over 6 hours from our original time.
the greens were rolling no faster than a 9. An absolute embarrassment for a “top” desert golf course. The entire spine of the course was under construction or ground under repair. The pictures you see on the website portray a completely different course.
The fact that this is a “Top 25 SoCal” course is an absolute joke. I can personally name 25 courses just in Palm Springs/La Quinta alone that I’d rather play before I came back here. Not even close to being on the same level as the Indian wells or silverrocks or PGA West courses. Not even comparable. This is your average public course that is clearly so poorly managed that they don’t even see the problem. Paying $115 to play here was robbery and I can confidently say that I wouldn’t come back even if the head pro reads this and offers me and my group a free round to apologize.
Like I said, just a complete disappointment. Day 2 of their opening and it being this much a mess tells you everything you need to know. I highly recommend you look elsewhere...
Read moreThis was our first time coming to Cimarron and we were quite disappointed from the very first experience to the end. We dropped our bags at the bag drop. The cart guys refused to give us a cart telling us to return about 10 mins before our Tee time. We were 45 mins early. We bought a bucket and carried our clubs to the Driving range which wasn't a big deal. When we came back 10 mins before tee time the cart guy apologized and said he'd mistakenly given our cart to someone who is teeing up after us. We had to wait but our time was approaching. We actually got a cart 10 mins 'after' our assigned tee time. Thought we'd be rushing but it turned out to be fine as they were running late. We didn't actually tee off until 2:15pm (with a 1:44pm assigned time). Given that they drop their rates by $30 after 2pm, the foursome in front of us complained to the starter who said to go to the pro shop after for a refund. As it turned out, we were only able to get 14 holes completed since carts 'are required' to be returned by 5:30pm. This was disappointing as we could have played at least two more holes as there was sufficient daylight at 5:30pm. It's light out until at least 5:45pm. We decided to go by the Pro shop, but they were closed at 5pm apparently. Overall, the course was in decent shape other than the washout areas that were like four wheel driving in a flood zone. The sand traps are wet and hard pan. Not much point in playing anything out of them. Overall, it wasn't a great experience. We decided to cancel our tee time set for two days later and found...
Read morePositives: Love both courses, staff is generally great, availability for tee times good, Players club membership is total bargain, grab them while you can, and notwithstanding what i will say below, will be playing here for next few years, but selectively on the Pebble.
Negatives: 8 minute tee time gaps for a PAR 3 COURSE!!! If you are a regular golfer on full size courses, you know that the biggest backups occur on par 3's. When you have a 3 or 4'some, two or more missing the green, a par 3 hole is going to take AT LEAST 10 minutes, if not 12 or more, so, doing the math, by mid-day, gridlock... Staff doesn't care, because they can't really move this along like when there is slow play, this isn't slow, this is just not enough time between groups, plus you get a lot more, shall we say, less experienced folks, on a par 3 course. Won't be back on this course during season, other than early day. I left today after it taking over 1.5 hours to play 7 holes on a par 3 course... waiting 7-12 minutes on each tee box. Again, great course, love it, but not at par 72...
