What an amazing little place! We stopped in while passing through town Sunday morning. Chose to stop based on reviews, several other choices in the immediate area, and boy am I glad we did. First of all the place was very busy, staff was in constant motion. After a much shorter wait than appeared likely, we were seated at a clean table before the previous customers were out the door. Our waitress, all smiles and seeming happy to see us, asked what we would like to drink, and fantastic hot coffee in heavy mugs and a carafe for refills arrived nearly instantly. Orders were placed soon after, and we settled in to wait, after all it is a small busy place on a Sunday morning. The only problem waiting was watching all the wonderful plates pouring forth from the kitchen, and questioning our own choices in light of what trotted past. We need not have been concerned, as quite soon our meals arrived. We both had ordered omelets, but different toast and filling. The omelets were large and perfectly prepared. The ham in mine was cut and tasted like it had just been carved off the bone. The hash browns were crisp and plentiful. But the toast. ..oh my. Mine was sourdough, and to say it was phenomenal doesn't do it justice. Freshly baked, over an inch thick, smothered with fresh butter and toasted to perfection. I have no doubt that we will be back to try some of the other wonderful looking food we saw, but I am equally sure what ever I get will have a side of toast. As we left after paying, I looked back and saw our table already occupied and a coffee carafe arriving. Perhaps 3 minutes had elapsed. ..the owners should be quite proud. Could not...
Read moreJust left the Camping show and needed a bit to eat. I google the best home cooking restaurants in Cedar Falls and this place popped up! It’s so close to where we were was an added bonus. Nice greeting and place sit where it’s clean and open. Waitress came over right away with menus and silverware. Got our drink order and said someone would soon be other. The menu has a good selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. Jess out waitress came over and we explained this was our first time here and not locals. My wife asked what she would recommend to us. Jess asked a great question first. “What are you hungry for? Breakfast, lunch or dinner”. We said lunch and she gave us 4 things said liked. My wife chose the Italian beef with a juice. Packed with plenty of meat, cheese and chopped onions. Along with a side of tater tot’s. I ordered the recommended hot beef sandwich with mash potatoes and gravy. Glad I got the half because it was plenty and a cup of their pot pie soup. My wife’s meat was somewhat dry until you dipped it. It had more onion in it than she would have wanted. The toys were fried a little much. Not much taste. My dish was amazing. Meat tender, gravy tasty, bread huge and mashed potatoes yummy. The soup was interesting and very good. Jess our service was more than helpful and prompted. We would come back again and try other selections. I would recommend this home style cooking restaurant to anyone. Until next...
Read moreI had a great experience on Thanksgiving of 2015 so our family went back in January of 2016 since the food was wonderful and the staff the best. Our food was cold but the waitress was nice and replaced the cold mashed potatoes and gave us half off of the bill to our surprise. We chalked it up to these things happen and went back to a fabulous breakfast with a wonderful waitress who was very good so much so I gave her a 50% tip on my bill. Then tonight happened. First my mashed potatoes again were cold along with my wife's, my steak was overcooked even after it had been sent back to have another cook, and there was a hair in my mashed potatoes. If that wasn't enough a waitress there who was not our waitress, named Jo, said very rudely to the kitchen staff that I said I had a hair in my mashed potatoes where I could hear her. That was the last straw so I told my wife we were leaving. As we walked by John said she would "comp" the ticket. I told her we wouldn't be back and it was a shame because we had a waitress there we really liked and enjoyed their apple fritter French toast. As I was walking out the door, my wife turned to open the door for me and saw Jo raise her hand in a "whatever, good riddance" motion. I feel bad for our waitress as she didn't do anything wrong but I don't carry cash so I couldn't tip her. I will be calling the owner in...
