Wow. Well, in Duck Creek there aren’t many options. So, we decided to risk it and go to Aunt Sue’s Chalet. Man, when you walk in you definitely get a mountain dining vibe...circa 1972.
You walk in and there is a fridge full of mysterious desserts that I wouldn’t give to my worst enemy. Homemade cinnamon rolls and a pie that looks like a four year old made it. They even pride themselves on their homemade cinnamon rolls and they should really, maybe, take them off the menu. Who knows how long each roll has been sitting in that fridge.
No one greeted us at the door and when someone finally paid attention - they were visibly irritated that we were even there. Mind you, the place was dead, with only one man eating the mystery dessert in the corner. We were told to sit wherever we wanted so we found a booth that hasn’t been updated since 1978.
Our waitress was this eyebrow piercing wench who had the biggest attitude problem I’ve ever seen. She took our drink order and brought back something that was suppose to be Sprite. Think Sprite- mixed with Pinesol.
The table decided they hated themselves this day and ordered the chili cheese fries. They looked decent, but I did not partake in the diarrhea festivities, so I can’t give a proper opinion.
I ordered the cheeseburger and fries, both of which weren’t terrible. Mediocre at best though. During our meal we were in need of napkins and because no one offered any or were around to check on us, we had to go grab napkins from the front desk.
Eventually, Ms. Eyebrow Piercing came and asked if we were done and then basically slammed the bill on the table. Cool. Way to go. Makes us really want to leave a good tip.
If you have a restaurant in a small town like this - my advice would be to update the place and make it a bit more appealing. Also, I’m sure there are a limited selection of people to chose from to hire, but at least tell them they shouldn’t be rude jerks.
Two stars. Only because the food wasn’t AS bad as I was expecting. And because I’ve had worse.
TLDR; rude staff,...
Read moreWell. I have eaten on restaurants all over the world, and I should know better by now. Stick to the basics and do not listen to suggestions. While spending the week in Duck Creek Village Utah, we decided to take the family of five out to celebrate our 52nd anniversary. There are not a lot of options in this area, so based on reviews, we picked Aunt Sue's Chalet. Not our best decision. The place is old and decorated in country style but from 40 years ago including a full lit Christmas village. Seated at two tables versus the available large booth in the back, we ordered per recommendations from the very friendly waitress. Chicken fried steak and baked potato. Fried chicken dinner, hamburger, and an open faced beef sandwich. We also ordered fried mushrooms and green beans. The dinners came with the salad bar, which was very good with an abundance of toppings and dressings. Really the highlight of my dinner. The mushrooms came and were frozen inside. So much for homemade. The waitress quickly fixed this, and both were decent for bulk frozen products. The hamburger was excellent. A handmade patty cooked perfectly with crispy fries. The fried chicken came and was very good. Crispy and not greasy at all. The recommended mashed potatoes, however, came from a box and were bland and tasteless. Now the downside. My chicken fried steak was really a chicken fried hamburger patty smothered with canned gravy. Awful. The baked potato was obviously cooked this morning and reheated to a warmish/cold state that would not even melt the small ball of butter provided on the side. Almost inedible. The hot, open faced beef sandwich was comprised of packaged thinly sliced beef products on white bread smothered with canned beef gravy. The beef had a rubbery chewy consistency of cheap packed slice beef products. Truly aweful. The people were nice. Plenty of parking. Order the burger or fried chicken and forget the rest. Not...
Read moreAmazing! Great service and the food was so yummy and everyone was so sweet. Being from a small town ourselves, we felt their authenticity. We actually ended up buying a whole freshly made blueberry pie to take home. It was the most amazing pie I've ever had! The crust had so much flavor! It had a sweet taste and the texture was perfect. I could have eaten the crust all by itself! It was perfection! Because most crusts are just blah, a bland containment unit for the filling, I tend to prefer a crumble type pie over the standard crust. But this pie... I'll crave it forever. Think of a Hostess brand pie and the sweetness and the texture that crust has. Now imagine it's fresh made with no preservatives and up the flavor x100. Then add the fresh blueberry filling that is not too sweet. Divine! The blueberries are so sweet and they maintain their shape. They aren't mushed or unrecognizable. They're so naturally sweet on their own, the rest of the filling doesn't need to be the carrier of the sweetness. It's perfectly balanced in flavor and sweetness without tasting Iike a overly artificially flavored canned filling. As good as it tastes, it just HAS to be homemade! It's fantastic!! Do yourself a favor, visit Aunt Sue's, enjoy the terrific food and great service and take home an amazing pie! You will be so...
