I was pleasantly surprised and I can’t recommend this place enough. It is really hard to get a decent Japanese curry around here in Austin and Miyo knocked it out of the park with their Chicken Katsu Curry. The chicken was juicy with an incredibly crispy crust that paired so damn well with the thick curry. A must have appetizer I’ll highly recommend is the Takoyaki. It came with 4 takoyaki balls, perfectly fried with the cheesiest and creamiest interior I have ever tried. It was so good it rivaled some of the Takoyakis I have tried in SF Japantown - that says something. The generous sprinkling of bonito flakes took it to the next level. Lastly, the Sukiyaki was incredibly too - especially the hotpot soup base. They didn’t skimp on the texture, it isn’t watered down unlike other places. It was thick and a perfect balance of sweet and umami. The glass noodles were my favorites among other things. The entrees can be easily shared between two people and expect to spend about $16-$18 per entree. Appetizers are under $10 mostly. We might try the sashimis and sushis next time. With an appetizer and 1 entree per person, expect to spend about $60 for two without the drinks. Plenty of parking and nice patio seating for when it’s warm out. The wait times are average on busy nights. A little understaffed just like any other place in Austin. Definitely check it out.

I have never written a review, however this experience seemed worthy of sharing. Just a couple of weeks ago my wife and I decided to try Miyako Yakitori & Sushi for the first time, and we went with the Hokkaido Combo. I picked it up and it looked absolutely beautiful - great presentation, all pieces assembled very nicely on a party tray - I couldn’t wait to get it home and dig in. I got to my truck and upon getting it into my back seat where it wouldn’t move around too much on the drive back to the house, the edge of the tray lid got caught up on the seat and I proceeded to spill the whole tray upside down on the floor. I was devastated. After cleaning up the back seat, I headed back to the restaurant and placed the same order again, determined to have sushi for my next meal! Jenny could see the disappointment in my eyes when I explained what I had done. Wasting cash on food that no one got to enjoy was upsetting, but I felt even more ashamed of myself for being so careless after all of the time, effort and pride the chef put into preparing the platter for us. After re-placing the order, I decided to wait in my truck while “take 2” was being prepared. About 30 minutes later, Jenny came outside to bring the order to me. I met her halfway and she explained that she secured the tray lid with tape to the tray, included an order of edamame and deserts on the house, and thanked me for coming back after all that had happened. I couldn’t ask for a better customer experience. Getting home, I shared what had unfolded with my wife and we thoroughly enjoyed our sushi dinner. Presentation and variety was great. The only bit of criticism we had was that some of the sashimi pieces were cut a little too big for a comfortable bite (first-world problems!) We simply cut them in half. Overall we were more than satisfied with the food, the staff is outstanding and we will absolutely be visiting again. We’re looking forward to having a meal at the restaurant after this COVID-19 business is done with. The atmosphere inside the restaurant seemed to be very relaxing, as well. Big thanks to everyone at Miyako Yakitori & Sushi! Looking forward to seeing...

So yesterday we decided we wanted sushi for lunch and stumbled upon Miyo. It wasn’t very busy at the time so we were seated immediately and were quickly served a couple of cold draft Sapporos. We usually prefer sashimi to getting rolls so we marked up our menu and handed it off to our wonderful waitress. Over the next hour we were served beautiful displays of fresh sashimi and just spoiled with extras from the chef.

The chef and waitress said most people don’t order just sashimi like we did so it gave him an opportunity to show off his skills and he very much appreciated the opportunity. Every dish was absolutely delicious, we ended up ordering twice during that time and left pleasantly full and satisfied. We put down some fish! We were even treated to some dishes the chef enjoys making but usually doesn’t have the time or doesn’t have people that appreciate what he can do.

The staff was professional and knowledgeable, the chef was humble and a master at his craft. We dropped a pretty penny being that sashimi is always more expensive but we were happy to do so and left a generous well deserved tip for our waitress.

We can’t say enough great things about our experience, and we can’t wait to go back. This is one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had and every dish was fresh and presented beautifully. We honestly felt like we were the only ones there even though there was a constant flow of folks coming and going.

I can’t recommend Miyo enough, if you love great sushi then this is the place. It’s not the fanciest restaurant out there, but that’s what makes it great. It’s a relaxing sit and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Go see them and tip your waitress generously, they appreciate it more than you know. We can’t wait to go back!

I would have added pictures but we were to into the food to stop and take...

Best sushi rice in Austin - I finally found the spot and it’s at Miyo! Coming from CA, I’ve been super disappointed by all the sushi spots I’ve tried (except for Uroko, they’re also on point). I always opt for traditional items at sushi spots - sashimi, nigiri and maki rolls. These items will tell you if the fish and the sushi rice is any good. And trust me, not all sushi places do the simple stuff well (others will cover low quality ingredients with tons of sauces). Staff was extremely kind and attentive to our dog - we sat out on the patio and she brought our dog a water bowl. The service is incredible. I enjoy dining in peace and this place is spot on! Our waitress gave us the perfect amount of privacy and attention, letting us enjoy our dinner and company in peace but was always there when we needed something. We had a great chat about my terrible sushi rice experience in Austin. We also had a ramen combo that came with gyoza. The broth was light but full of flavor, and the noodles were cool to perfection - soft but still maintain its bouncy texture. I raved about the noodle texture and the rice and insist that she shares the feedback with the chef. She recommended some other simple dishes that highlights the rice and I’m thrilled to come back again soon! Thank you Miyo for becoming my go to spot for delicious and affordable sushi! Will take pics next time (it was so good, we couldn’t...
