I've never had any issues here but it has been quite a few years since I've been in. I was appalled by the way I was treated just now. There was an issue with the burger I ordered. I took a bite and was put off by the way it tasted. I thought maybe it was the bbq sauce. So I tried another bite without it. It was definitely the meat. I wasn't rude about it, I didn't send it back, I didn't ask for another meal. I just didn't eat it. I kindly let the server know it had a funky taste/smell and something about it just wasn't right. I work in the industry and I've smelled burger that's not been stored properly and jas spoiled and that is what this reminded me of. Not saying that's what happened, just something about it and I was afraid I'd get sick if I ate it. My cousin and I ate most the fries on the plate and 2 of the onion rings that came with the burger but everything else on that plate, stayed right on that plate and went back. They still wanted to charge me $6 for something that for one, didn't taste fresh and for two, I didn't even eat. The waitress tried to say I ate half of it. The burger was thinner than a McDonald's patty... Very tiny and fell apart when trying to take a bite because it was so flimsy. That wasn't even my concern though. I took the bill up and asked to speak to the manager and she immediately got an attitude. As did Sara the manager or owner or whoever it was she told. She wouldn't even come out to talk with me. Literally yelled from the kitchen and said, "just take it off, I don't wanna deal with her"! Loud enough for everyone to hear.. The waitress attempted to argue about the issue as she was cashing me out and I tried to explain that I've never had any issues there before and sometimes it's just something that happens but there was no need for them to be rude to me. Now if I was a returning customer who always had something to complain about, then sure I get it. But like I said it's been forever since I've been in and I was excited to go (should have just stuck to Sue's Kountry Kitchen). However this woman was in the back yelling for me to just leave her restaurant, even though I was in the process of doing so, that I was so shocked they would treat someone so badly ! I couldn't believe it. I've never been treated that way. I've never even seen someone be treated that way by staff. It actually made me sad. I was in no way what so ever rude to them or snappy or mean or raised my voice at all. While we were still at the table, it was brought up that we won't be coming back. I said, "no I'll come back I just won't ever order a burger". But between then and leaving that place... I will probably never be going back. I didn't even leave a tip and I NEVER do that. I feel a little bad cause the server was pregnant but you just don't treat people like that! Even with poor service I still tip no less than 15%. Because I know how it is. I do it everyday. But no matter what the situation, I would never speak to a guest that way. The situation could definitely and should have been handled...
Read moreI grew up in Cedar Springs and its been awhile since my my wife and I have been to Kelly's . We decided to give it a try for breakfast. To say we were disappointed would be a kind remark.
First, it was busy so I have to give some consideration to that , but we waited over 50 mins for our food . I ordered Eggs Benedict with crispy hash browns. My wife ordered a Spinach Feta Mushroom Omlettte which came with hash browns and English muffin toast. Both our hash browns were cold and soggy, not crispy and more like mash potatoes than hash browns . Spinach tasted rotten or out of a can; mushrooms were hard and undercooked. The Eggs Benny was relatively tastless (except for the rotten spinach), with very little hollandaise and the eggs were cooked so the yolk was hard; the English muffins in both our meals were stale.
While we were waiting for our food we saw several people send their food back then wait for 20 more minutes to get it back while the other people in there groups were almost done eating.
We enjoy checking out small diners and find some real gems. Unfortunately Kelly's Restaurant is definitely not one of them. Out-of-date and run down decor don't usually factor in to how we rate a restaurant, but combined with the unappealing food and the carpeting that hasn't been cleaned well in quite some time (you could literally see layers of dust/dirt in the corners and along the edges), it is a good representation of the owners not taking pride in anything about the place.
The only positive thing we could say about this dining experience was that the waitress was friendly and they were all "johnny-on-the-spot" with the coffee refills. All-in-all we would have gotten a better meal at Big Boy, which is not...
Read moreGreat little small town family diner. The building inside isn't much to look at, seats maybe 100 people, tops. We usually go once or twice a month, usually Sundays. The place is always crazy busy but we were seated almost immediately. Service is super fast. I ordered a soft drink and fried mushrooms as an appetizer. The mushrooms, diner salad, and bread all came out the same time. The entrées came out before I was even half done with the 'shrooms and salad.
The menu is huge, hard to believe they can produce all that out of what can't be a very big kitchen. The most expensive thing on the menu is less than $14. Most things are less than $10. I got the smothered steak, an 8oz sirloin on a bed of seasoned white rice smothered with mushrooms, peppers, and onion. Two big slices of Swiss cheese covered the whole thing. The steak was a perfect medium-rare. I took about a third of it home as I couldn't finish it. My wife had an 8oz steak, a perfect medium, with grilled veggies and baked potato. She really loved the veggies which is not normal because she is really picky about how these are prepared. The whole meal with appetizer and one soft drink was less than $30. We'll probably go back in a couple of weeks. One of these days I'd like to go for breakfast Oh, 10% off for...
