So, this might be a long one. But I took the time to write this, so that others wouldn't feel as deceived or confused as I did when I visited The Kind Bean.
First of all, they will upcharge you 75 cents for PLANET OAT oatmilk. They're not using Oatly, or another barista edition milk, like any coffee place with any respect for themselves are. They did not mention the upcharge when asking which milk you prefer, and when we pointed it out they get defensive and say "well we're humans, we make mistakes". It is one thing to charge 75 cents for barista edition milks, which is for sure more expensive than other milks, but using PLANET OAT makes it a robbery in broad daylight, and also makes the coffee sub-par if I'm honest. If you decide to go, I recommend going coconut/almond at 0 upcharge and possibly (can't promise) a half-decent coffee.
Second of all, they say "We identify as foodies, struggling minimalists, sports fanatics, animal lovers and VEGANS." yet they serve whole milk as an option for their coffee. It personally made me question the ingredients of every single item in there, since I felt lied to. If you are confused, as the owners must be, Whole milk does not come from plants.
Like other reviews, I also found the owners to be extremely defensive and condescending when we tried to ask (very nicely) about the upcharge, both in person and in e-mail. They should change the name of their Cafe to "The confused and condescending bean", it would be more fitting.
If you made it this far and still decide to go, the pastries are honestly good.

Read moreReally wanted to like this place...after reading the reviews and driving past it so many times. Stopped in after grocery shopping today. Their in-store menu has more items than their on-line menu.
I had already had all the coffee I needed for the day, so I didn't get any here. But I did have the Loaded Burrito for brunch. The tortilla had a nice crackery crunch on the outside, while the inside was soft and contained the fixins well. The flavor of the contents was mostly savory but also very subtly sweet, and the homemade salsa added a nice, fresh kick to the cooked contents.
Then I had a Lemon Scone, which was still very warm. The lemon was a nice balance of lightly tart and not overpowering. The texture was like a very soft, fluffy, moist biscuit. All in all, a delicious, not overly sweet scone which I enjoyed very much.
Then I had a Chocolate Chip Scone (yes, all in 1 sitting). This, too, was still very warm. The texture was about the same as the lemon scone, with the addition of sugar crystals on top and of course chocolate chips inside, which were slightly melted. Again, a soft, fluffy, most biscuit with great flavor and not overly sweet.
Also took home 2 peanut-butter cups, which are in the refrigerator. No way I could eat them after all the other food. But I will be trying those later (today or tomorrow).
Met the owners, Clay and Jen, and one other staff person. Everyone is very friendly and service oriented.
So as I mentioned, I really wanted to like this place, but I don't...I love it! As a vegan, I highly recommend The Kind Bean to both vegans and non-vegans alike; and I will certainly be back! (Have to try some of the...
Read moreI have been a long time customer and used their app many times. I was having an issue with it and called in for help. I was hoping to tell them my order (2 drinks) and go in to figure out the app issue once I got there. While on the phone, I was passed to 2 different employees who told me they don’t “take phone orders” because “it can get busy sometimes.” They could have asked for my order in a fraction of the time they spent with me on the phone. When I came into the store, the owner came out and took a picture of my phone to send to their app developer. When I told him how frustrating the phone experience was with his employees his response was that they “do their best” and that “it gets busy.” Note, I was standing in a totally empty store at this point. Highly disappointed with the experience which made a fairly simple app glitch situation complicated and completely annoying. I deleted the app and we won’t go back. Funny how “hospitality” is listed first on one of their signs in the store. It appears that the comments about the owners and staff’s kindness being fake has...
