If You Don’t Go You Won’t Know! FYI: GRATUITY IS AUTOMATICALLY ADDED. Saw the recent IG shoutouts and thought we would give Capitaine a visit. Stopped in on a Thursday evening at 8pm for a late bite to eat. Upon entering the vibe is a cozy and intimate space. The seating area to the left of entrance seems a bit awkward but is functional. There are a few high top tables in the center and four large booth tables to accommodate a party of four or five easily. The bar offers additional seating. The crowd was moderate, not overwhelming but the only two waitresses(one was also the bartender)seemed a bit stretched out. We weren’t greeted upon entering and attempted to seat ourselves but all vacant tables had dirty plates left from previous patrons. The manager finally cleaned a table. When ordering we asked about drinks shown on IG and if they had a drink menu. They do not but we were told they can pretty much make whatever you want. We also noticed hookah pipes sitting near the bar as well as another customer smoking hookah when we walked in. Had to ask the waitress what the price was and flavors. There was no menu or listing for this either. While waiting on food we noticed a few customers complained about their food orders and checks being wrong. I saw a few people have to inquire about their orders being slow. We ordered food at approximately 8:10pm and received entrees 8:54pm. Entrees we ordered were the Capitaine Platter (grilled shrimp, lobster tail, and a side of plantain) Also ordered the Mango Habanero wings with a side of fries. Drinks were Sunrise Mimosa Margarita and Blue Lemon Drop, they left a lot to be desired. Lobster was over cooked, shrimp were ok. Had to ask for drawn butter for lobster which seemed foreign to them and it was obvious from lack of seasoning and refrigerator taste. Wings were the smallest I’ve seen. Not sure where they found that chicken and there was not a lick of heat for the habanero. Best thing ordered were the plantains.

This was the worst experience ever. I tried not to write a bad review but it was disappointment after disappointment! I understand opening a new business but this was just beyond unacceptable. And on my birthday at that! I made a reservation earlier in the week for 2pm Sunday 4/14. I found out via IG from scrolling that they had canceled their brunch for the day. This was at 12pm the day of. No correspondence from the establishment. I sucked it up because the pics were really nice and I really wanted to try this place so I pushed the time back to 5pm. I The reservation was for a party of 12. They don’t have enough space for a party of 12. Luckily it ended up being just 6of us. The inside is a very nice set up but small. First thing, they only had about 6 options available on the menu, then when selecting from there the waitress came back and they were out of some of those as well. Mind you we were the first ones there at 5 when they opened. We ordered appetizers and food. 3 hours later still no food had came out. The food that did came out were the wrong orders . When the food did come there were items missing and again incorrect items. The food that we did receive was mediocre. Nothing exciting at all. I would give an overall 4/10. The rice was the best thing on the menu. The drinks were good. The owner (I believe that’s who he was) was apologetic. Our waitress Dee was very accommodating and apologetic as well. There were some others with nasty attitudes because the food was wrong and we had to send it back. The burger seems to be a frozen patty, and the fries are horrible!!! Who doesn’t love a good fry?! After 4 hours we just asked for the checks and for them to keep the food that they hadn’t brung. Then the right food came out. We were promised a discount that we didn’t receive but by this time we were over it and just ready to go. We were over it. We were highly disappointed and to say the least my birthday was ruined!

The Huba found this restaurant and we stopped by on a Friday evening. It wasn’t too busy and we were promptly seated. The restaurant has a parking lot but we found street parking. We were surprised to find that it was a hookah lounge and a couple were smoking it. The smell wasn’t too overpowering. We ordered the suya platter and lamp chop with respective sides. Honestly, we were sure if it was an African restaurant, we thought it was going to be but don’t know. Didn’t have to wait long for our food. The lamb chop was really good. Jollof rice was just okay. The suya platter was good as well. There was a Dj that started to play by the time we left around 9:30pm. Overall, lovely experience. Our waiter was good and checked in several times. I took out a star because we were given plastic utensils for a seat down menu? That’s a first. We didn’t order a take out so having to use a plastic ware with a plate versus paper plates was a bit irritating.

Ciara’s post from a few days ago was our EXACT experience and yes the GRATUITY IS ADDED no matter what size your party is.

My husband, daughter and I are from out of town and wanted to find a spot with good food and a good vibe. We saw this place on IG and decided to walk in Friday, April 12. I read the reviews, but it’s a new restaurant and of course there will be growing pains.

We pull up. The parking is minimal maybe 8 spaces, but thankfully a car was leaving from the small lot, so we parked easily. Most of the parking is on the street.

We arrived around 9:15ish for dinner. We were able to get seats at the bar after a reasonable wait of maybe 15 minutes. It had a great energy and vibe. Music was good, crowd was mature. The bartenders were wonderful ladies, personable, made great drinks and earned every penny they made! Everything on the menu was available, so we were off to a good start. We put in our orders around 9:45. We notice that it appears that there is one chef, no soux chefs (maybe one who also operated as a busboy). Around 10:15 we notice a table of gentleman that were already seated in their booth when we first arrived getting their food. We then look to another table of ladies that were seated before us and they had drinks but no food. Around 10:25, the bartender tells us there is one more ticket and then our food will be cooked next.

While we were waiting for our food, the owner came and sat with friends next to us at the bar. The head bartender was in constant contact with him and he didn’t seem to have any care or urgency about the poor operations. He seemed very nice, but many nice people go out of business. I saw an online order come get picked up after waiting for some time. Umm this business has no capacity for online orders because there was ONE chef making every meal order as they came in with little to no assistance.

Around 10:40 (almost an hour later) our food comes. DO NOT ORDER THE SUYA PLATTER WITH THE EXPECTATION OF AN ACTUAL PLATTER. The platter was a 5-6, 1-2 inch length slabs of delicious tasting thin steaks, overcooked tasty shrimp kabob, and a few grilled peppers. By the way, the grilled peppers were the “mixed vegetables”. My daughter chose the jollof rice as her side. It was cold and uncooked. We sent it back and didn’t bother wanting another one ( since it would have taken Lord knows how long). I enjoyed my burger with the plaintains. My husband enjoyed his tacos (2 come in an order). The food tasted good. I don’t fault the chef. He was doing the best he could, but he clearly needs help.

We complained about the wait and got comped round of drinks and took 10% off the receipt for the uncooked food. Again the owner seemed very nice, but for a new establishment he should have been jumping in to do whatever as needed to make it move more smoothly and instead he was busy socializing. I won’t go back there again. The food tasted good but the overall value was lacking in addition to the unreasonable wait.

I hope the owner is reading these comments. Your chef needs help! Make the adjustments sooner than later so there...

Had very high hopes for this establishment. The interior design was the most up to par, but with the poor service, extremely long wait times, and lack of communication, the atmosphere alone is not enough. My wife brought me here for a date night, and literally said that she “felt bad” for taking me there. The server staff were doing their very best, but the cooks and the male with ear length locs (don’t know his name) lacked sense of urgency. I also felt like the male allowed the bartender/servers to drown. When we first arrived, he was taking orders, and from complaints of other customers, it was evident that he made multiple mistakes when taking orders. The cooks then took 1.5 hours + to finish dishes as if they hadn’t even prepped ( keep in mind we arrived 2 hours after opening time, so they should have been somewhat prepared to prepare dishes). In regards to the adult beverages, there was not cocktail menu, which indicates that there were no recipes, and in return, the 2 drinks I had were either flavorless or extremely sour. I only tried a 2nd drink to see if maybe I just ordered the wrong thing the first time. I also want to mention that those drinks were over an hour apart because after our first drink order, no one came to check on us until over and hour later. Not even the male worker who was mostly just standing around watching one of the female servers deal with complaints, and he even sat to smoke hookah. Lastly, upon receiving the check, there was an automatic gratuity charge. When we asked about it, he notified us that there was a service charge for all tickets over $75. That would have been fine, but not once was that advertised to us, not even on the menu. A notice in advance would’ve been appreciated. So be mindful of that if you do visit. The only reason that I did not cause a scene at the restaurant was because 1. Someone else had already done that during our visit, and 2. I try to compose myself in public settings. Very very dissatisfied, and unfortunately I will not be returning. I hope they make...
