I am 32 weeks pregnant with my second child. Just like with my first pregnancy, I listen to my doctors when it comes to taking care of myself and my unborn child. There are so many things that pregnant women need to be aware of these days in terms of what's harmful to the baby. Those things also change constantly- it's hard to keep up!
I chose my OBGYN practice based on the fact that the doctors and nurses there are competent, caring and most of all realistic when it comes to prenatal care. There's only so much that we can control.
Let's get to the brass tax here. I have NO problem drinking the occasional glass of wine/beer, especially now that I'm in my third trimester. While some might consider this taboo, I have been assured by medical professionals that this is perfectly fine. Everything in moderation.
Last night, I went to dinner with my family at Hawthornes Pizza on Carmel Road. After getting settled, we all ordered drinks from the waitress. I ordered a Blue Moon and had no qualms about doing so.
Within the next few minutes, a manager/bartender approached me. She asked "are you expecting?" to which I answered "yes". She asked "did you order a beer?" to which I also answered "yes". With an awkward smile, she explained to me that she did not feel comfortable serving me. I was mortified. I told her that was absolutely ridiculous and we left immediately.
I understand there could be liabilities associated with serving alcohol to a pregnant woman. However, this doesn't make me feel any less discriminated against. The fact that this restaurant was able to take away my decision on whether or not to partake in a beverage is unfair. The fact that they made me feel like an unfit mother is infuriating.
Needless to say, I will not be eating at Hawthorne's Pizza on...
Read moreThe service is so bad but I'm actually sitting in the restaurant writing my review. This was actually my first time going to the restaurant as we are new to the Charlotte area. I had gone to the restaurant because it was a fundraiser for my children's elementary school. We sat down and waited at least an hour before anyone even acknowledged that we were sitting there. Finally the young man who had been preoccupied with changing the channels on the television came over and said sorry for your wait and begin to take our drink orders. Then we need waited another 15 minutes for our garlic knots. And did I mention that the family that came in after us have already received their food drinks and are ready to leave we're just getting our appetizer. What's strange is that one of the waiters who walked past our table constantly the whole time just stopped and asked do we need anything when they never even thought to come and take our order or ask if we wanted anything in the hour that we had been sitting there. I will...
Read moreI would like to give a shout out to the entire crew at Hawthornes at Carmel and quail. I am a door dasher and I have picked up and delivered over 3000 orders. A lot of my orders are from Hawthornes and I tend to stick in the area to get orders from there. Your staff at that particular location is phenomenal. I can't tell you how many times I have been offered a water which when you spend hours on end in your car for peanuts, is the most wonderful thing. No other establishment does that. Most of the times I'm scared to ask any other place. You all are friendly, polite, communicative and responsive... And I pick up a lot of food from a lot of establishments but when I pick up there the smell of such deliciousness makes me so hungry and envious of whom may enjoy it... Cheers to yall at quail Corners Hawthornes and to any customers I say, I highly doubt you won't enjoy your food. My sincere appreciation to this establishment; 5 stars all around and really, thank you for...
