MOD Pizza — Restaurant in Charlotte

We have been going to this location for years, and almist always enjoyed both the service and the food. A few weeks ago we visited, ordered 2 mod salads and 2 mod pizzas to go, and chowed once we got home. 2 slices into my pizza, i chewed into a big ball of what appeared to be beard clippings. When i tried to contact the owner to complain, I found out that mod is now all corporate owned, so i submitted the concern and pictures both on the corporate website and instagram. I did not recieve a response for days, and when they did respond, it was to talk about how stringent their health requirements are (apparently not), and refund me only for my pizza though I had told them in my initial message that after I bit into the hairball we did not eat the remainder of the food or salads. We havent been back, both because this is revolting and because of the lackluster response. I dont know if or when we will be back. I'm so grossed out and disappointed. If the response from corporate had been better and at least comped thw rest of our disgusting order, I may have taken it as a 1 off situation and returned. But dirty AND dismissive? Having researched Mod Pizza and at the time having a rating of 4.4 we chose to give Mod Pizza a try. First all we had ordered was a simple thick crust cheese pizza with sauce. When I picked up the pizza, I had to open the box because it felt like it was empty. I DIdn’t think it was a thick crust, but chose not to make a scene. I noticed immediately that the sauce and cheese was so sparingly on the pizza but I didn’t realize until we served it at home, how thin the crust was, and there was probably no sauce or cheese on about 20% of the pizza. We both are watching out diet,and chose something simple like plain cheese, but, the crust was found to be bland, very thin sauce , and thin cheese both had “Not much Flavor”. Our cauliflower crust with cheese and jar pizza sauce made from home had more flavor. On the plus side, they were quick, as it was ready when I arrived. Why have I only just discovered this incredible pizza place!? Being from South Africa we have an aversion to "normal" American pizza (no Domino's). These pizzas are delicious. So delicious that when I was describing them I dropped the F-bomb. I love the atmosphere, and that we could craft our own pizzas. We loved MOD so much that we ate it three days in a row. One negative though is that the staff were inconsistent. The first evening we went to MOD all the staff shouted out a greeting as we walked through the doors - what a welcome. They then asked if we needed help understanding the menu and the process, and listened attentively as we placed our order. The second time we arrived (i.e. the very next day), the staff didn't greet us and when making our pizza the one staff member started adding toppings before I had a chance to tell her what I wanted.
