Itās 3/13/25, Iāve visited this location on Statesville twice within last 30 days and both times my experience trying to support my people have been terrible. First time the girl taking orders and the cook were arguing about a customer inquiring about cornbread for their catered order, the cook even yelled out to the girl ātell them call the other store then!ā loud enough for customer on phone to hear. Second bad experience was yesterday, I decided to try them again because this place used to be so good when the actual Mr. Charles was on duty, but once again a big letdown because when I got in car to enjoy my food a long strand of hair was in container. I took it back to show girl taking orders first thing she says is ānobody here has black hairā (her hair is red with a hint of black) I guess she was suggesting I drove all the way there from Steele Creek and ordered a plate just to put a strand of hair in it, give plate back untouched and drive back to Steele Creek empty handed. On top of all that they couldnāt even refund my money she said āI have to call the owner so somebody will get back to you.ā Donāt know if this staff is related to Mr. Charles, but theyāre ruining his legacy.
When Mr. Charles was on site I loved coming here but now the food is terrible!!! I ordered the family feast and specifically asked for freshly cooked chicken the girl told me chicken just came out grease but when I got home I see they stuck the old chicken under a couple pieces of fresh chicken and the chicken had absolutely NO FLAVOR AND NO SEASONING and the family size Mac & cheese was extremely dry and I loose my 2 year old LOVES Mac & cheese but she spit it out after one biteā¦I ordered 8 piece I got 2 old breast, 2 fresh thighs, 1 old leg & 1 fresh wing TOTAL WASTE OF MY MONEY & TIMEā¦only black owned businesses will further inconvenience the customer because they fād up and now have an attitude. Now I have to find time to go home (Tega Cay, SC) get that terrible food just to bring it back because manager thinks Iām trying to get over on him because Iām African American and thatās what we doā¦..I wish Mr. Charles was still around he was a good man and I never had any issues until these new people that donāt give a damn about his legacy so they definitely donāt give a damn about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm stuck. Soooo I ate the food in prayer.. #1 the overall appearance of the restaurant was dirty but the young man that took my order was so nice like really really nice! But I cant shake the fact that soooooooo many things went wrong in a matter of me being there... so when I walked in I witnessed another male employee come out of the back to talk to the man that was preparing food and they were pretty close to the fryer, the guy that came out took his cap off and proceeded to scratch is hair with his cap by the fryeršš§.. then almost immediately after I witnessed that..the man that was preparing food with gloves on pulled up his pants which didnt appear to be that clean and did not change his gloves... now he was preparing someone's else's food so I didnt flip(sorry person, I'm having so many thoughts as I type OMG) but then he went to the back got a cleaning RAG and proceeded to wipe down almost everything near him and then attempted to make what was my order without changing his gloves..I stopped him and asked him to change his gloves and it wasn't a problem for him to do so(nice people).. the only person that had a problem was a nosey, disrespectful, nothing better to do female customer that felt compelled to "school" me on her version of food handling and sanitation.. however she didnt see all of what I saw she just heard when I asked for gloves to be changed. like I said I'm stuck. Nice people but unsanitary food handling and dirty(black dust accumulation) up front. Like I said I ate some of my food.(30.00 GONE! first and last visit) But something told me to stop. This is upsetting because I liked the yams.. but i won't be back just for peace of mind.. if that's what i saw in in front .. what's happening in the back.. OH YEAH.. there was a forth man that came out the back with no gloves on and put a piece of meat in the fryer and dropped it down. So yea I'm done. Such a shame though. They need that show Restaurant Impossible to come help.. you know out of all of this I didnt even stop to see what the sanitation score was. Crazy huh. Anyway bye...

I made reservations on January 26th for my birthday dinner for February 3rd for a party of 8 for 6pm at the uptown location and received an email confirmation January 27th and received 2 reminder text msgs. One during the week and the other the day before my birthday. I specifically put in the comments that I was reserving a table for seating to celebrate my birthday. We get there 10 mins to 6 and wasn't seated until about 6:15 and it was a seating for 6. I told the waitress my reservation was for 8 she says the seating for 6 was all they had available. I advised I made my reservation for 8 and received confirmation if the space wasn't available I should not have received confirmation. I ask to speak with the manager and told him today is my birthday I reserved a table for 8 people not 6. There was no apology no happy birthday and he went on to say we don't do reservations for Saturdays. I told him then I shouldn't have received a confirmation not once, twice but 3x. I showed him the emails and text msgs and still no apology. Then had the audacity to tell me that I slipped through the cracks never should have gotten the confirmation and the only reason he was going to TRY to accommodate me was because I had the confirmations. At that time my family and I decided to leave and go elsewhere where there's better customer service. This place was recommended by my cousin. I will never ever go there ever again. Customer service is bad. There's no structure or organization. It's very unorganized and the crowd is very unwelcoming.I don't beg businesses to take my money. Don't plan a birthday dinner with them because you will be very disappointed on your...
