Philly Corner — Restaurant in Charlotte

1st time visitor, I came because a friend recommended this place. Not especially easy to find, you can see the store front and sign from WT Harris but not from Hankins where you have to drive in. Located in a small strip with a cookie shop, dance studio and adult store. The counter help was quick and efficient, processed my order promptly and rang me up. I ordered the regular cheesesteak with provolone, onions and jalapenos. I also ordered a side of funnel fries. First the fries. I didn't know what these were and when I first saw them I thought they were covered in Parmesan cheese. Nope! They are like funnel cake straws and what I thought was cheese was powdered sugar! A sweet surprise and I ended up eating those first. Next, the sandwich. I watched the guy grill mine up, lots of chopping and mixing of meat, onions and peppers. Once cooked the cheese was added and then added to the chewy roll. I ordered take-out and had to go about 5 miles to my hotel. When I opened the foil wrapper rhe smell wafted out and was delicious! The hot chewy roll, the cheese stringing out with every bite, the firey jalapenos coupled with the seasoned meat were a joy to consume! And it was both heat hot and spicy hot! Whew! By the time I finished I had broken into a sweat! Good stuff! I'll put this place on my list...

When I moved to this area several years ago my husband tried the restaurant. It was pretty good! We tried it a couple years ago & I thought it was still good but my husband said it wasn't the same anymore so he stopped going. About a week ago, since it was just me & I was craving a Philly steak & cheese sandwich (remembering back to the past), I decided to grab dinner. I must say...it wasn't the same! I made my own Philly cheese with provolone, mayo, grilled onions, & lettuce with fries & drink. Flavor was off or needed more seasoning (tasted a little on the bland side). Ingredients fresh & sandwich cooked perfectly. Fries were a little overcooked. You know when you remember how something tasted & you're ready, knowing its going to hit the spot...but then it doesn't. Yeah that kind of disappointment. The the guy who took my order was polite. The pricing, I think is fair. But, I probably won't...

Nothing special here + bad service. I was in the area for the week and was told I had to try this. I ordered a 7inch works for pickup. I walked in and there was only one seated customer. I walked up to the register to get my pickup and pay. The guy making sandwiches kept looking at me for 5 mins without saying anything. Finally I looked up, and saw a Pickup sign down to my right. I went down to the sign and said hello. The guy behind the counter said, I'll get you at the register. Walk back to the register, pay and leave. Got back to.my hotel, and there was nothing to write home about. The bread was good and soft but the meat was dry and needed seasoning. The whole sub lacked any flavor. There are better cheesesteaks to be had at the that chain shops nearby and it felt like the staff was bothered by my shopping there and then were a smart ass to the customer. For that 2 stars....
