My family was celebrating my Father In Law’s 80th birthday last night, Friday, January 21, there were 6 of us. We had a great time. Our Server was Justin, what an outstanding job he did. He is the kind of Customer Service and nice personality that only speaks of high quality Staff. We all cannot say enough good about Justin and how he kept us full of food and met all the “special” requests from our table with a smile and a “can do” attitude. We were not his only table either, he was a busy guy. The salads that come with entrees were humble but enough, in fact Dad said he normally doesn’t like croutons but he really liked the homemade croutons sprinkled on his salad. It was – all you can eat – Cod fish fry night. Sis and hubby, had that, Justin ensured that they were going to have their fill checking on them making sure more was coming out of the kitchen for them. No complaints from them, in fact they ate more Cod than they normally would because it was that tasty. Dad and Mom each had the 1 pound of Shrimp (deep fried), it came out looking great with Mom saying it was “the best” she’s had (but she said that too the last time, ha ha). Hubby and I had the Michigan Lake Perch with potato wedges, yummers! If you haven’t tried their – potato wedges – and you like thick wedge slices, seasoned and lightly deep fried or fried… you’ve got to try them! Then came dessert time! Lemon Meringue Pie, SIZZLING Apple Pie with crumble and caramel syrup and vanilla ice cream (very sweet but screams October!), Cheesecake with a Caramel syrup drizzle, and Cheesecake with Cherries and Caramel syrup drizzle were all wonderful and a great end to a tasty dinner. Sheri had visited our table a couple times in a nice conversation, I believe she’s the Manager/Owner, it was nice to see her circulating at the tables of patron diners all over the restaurant. Kudos, job well done to the Kitchen Staff, without them … there’s no food and they work unseen. Something that’s nice about a restaurant like this, you see people you know, diners are walking over to other tables to say hello or sit for a few minutes to socialize, this is wonderful and a relaxing setting. There’s a fireplace at each end of the dining floor, but it’s a bit cool for me not being near the fires, I suggest have a sweater or layered tops. We are early diners being there shortly after open of 4pm, the restaurant fills up nicely within an hour but “it’s not crazy”. If you are looking for a nice atmosphere with high quality Staff, and tasty food, you should try Great Lakes Grill, there’s a variety of choices on the menu that aim to please. The menu prices are...
Read moreNestled in the landscape of Michigan, Great Lakes Grill beckons with a rustic charm that resonates with the region's spirit. Its ambiance is a genuine homage to the Up North, Great Lakes vibe, a delightful entry into what promises to be a comforting culinary experience.
The evening began with a somewhat puzzling wait, despite a visible section filled with unused tables. Minor irritations aside, what quickly emerged was the undeniable hustle and heart of the staff. Our server, doubling as a bartender, navigated her numerous responsibilities with grace and kindness, a beacon of hospitality in a busy environment. Her warmth and dedication could not be overlooked.
Yes, the menus may be aging like a weathered dock, in desperate need of an upgrade, but don't let that distract from the rich tapestry of flavors on offer. From chimichangas to chicken Alfredo pasta, Great Lakes Grill serves a world tour with a strong anchor in American comfort foods. And the portions? As generous as a local's smile.
Despite the understaffing that had the team running around like seagulls at a fish market, the food arrived satisfyingly good, a testament to the staff's dedication.
Great Lakes Grill feels like a local joint, where the heart beats in rhythm with the community's pulse, where the portions fill not just the stomach but the soul, and where a weary traveler can find a slice of home.
For those seeking a dining experience infused with local flavor, generous servings, and the genuine warmth of staff who truly care, look no further than Great...
Read moreAfter reading reviews my wife and I decided to try this restaurant. We decided to try a local restaurant rather than a chain restaurant. We had to wait a little bit to be seated (2 waitresses said someone will be with you in a minute). While there was some what of a crowd there were a few empty tables. When the waitress did seat us she sat us at a small table right near the door (so close that a patron actually knocked on the table on his way back to his table), of course people were coming and going as we waited. After a review of the menu we placed our order. It took some time for the food to come (a hamburger and chicken burger), yet my wife's burger was missing some of the items she had ordered (for which you pay extra). I had to get up and get the waitress and advised her the burger was missing the lettuce, tomato, and onion. She apologizes and then takes the burger to the kitchen and a few minutes later brings it back with the missing items (seemed like she could have just brought a little plate back with the items so my wife could at least start working on the fries). The chicken burger is just that processed chicken cut to pattie shape and not very tasty. The basil mayo was interesting but very strong. The burger was dry. The fried mushrooms and fried onion rings were good and the waitress was pleasant but distracted by apparent other duties. Overall, I was quite...
