There were a lot of people dining out today, trying to get that turkey taste out of their mouth, and needing a break before facing a weekend of left over turkey recipes. That includes me.
El Jarocho, I believe that refers to a person from Veracruz Mexico. The menu and the dining environment are straight up small town OkieMex. Enormous options and combinations of lightly seasoned Mexican food fill the menu. You will need to blend up the salsa to a more flavorful heat level. I had a # 20 combo; Relleno and Taco; a great relleno and a large beef filled crunchy taco. My wife had a Tamale Lunch. This was a little unusual. The tamale was covered with ground beef and a very tasty orangish “red sauce.” Both great meals served with beans and rice. The service was great, fast, and the food is served on the essential very hot plates. My only negative critique is with the chips. The chips were a little stale and mostly the broken too small to use, chip fragments.
El Jarocho is a good solid 4-star small town Mexican restaurant.
I LMAO when I read a reviewer’s bold assessment, “the food here is not authentic Mexican food.” Cheezas, lady, everyone working in the restaurant is Hispanic. That’s not Irish Stew on your plate.
If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've...
Read moreUpdate: Tonight I ordered "beef" Fajitas. They were amazing. I always request grilled jalapenos to be added to the dish. I try to keep it low carb so do not get the rice and beans and tortillas (which are all great.) But I do get the pico de Gallo, sour cream and guacamole. They always provide generous portions, amazing friendly service and yummy meals.
I ordered Chili Relleno's. Which were not my favorite I have had, but they were ok.
We also ordered a side of guacamole and queso. Both were excellent!
We also ordered Medium margaritas on the rocks. They were wonderful. They did rim with something other than margarita salt, but I drank the margaritas with a straw, so it was ok.
Having just moved here, I am excited to find a good Mexican Restaurant nearby.
My husband enjoyed his Taco al Pastor, but you will have to see his review. He thought they were perfect.

We went back to El Jarocho this past Friday and I had the steak street tacos. While they were pretty good I did end up asking for some Pico de Gallo because I thought they needed a bit more heat. Maybe I just like my food a bit more spicy than...
Read moreI had the fajitas mar y Tierra, the tilapia was surprisingly the best part out of the shrimp, chicken, and steak. The steak and chicken cuts were very bland, small cut, and thin. The tilapia was the only thing that seemed to get some seasoning on it. The cheese dip I ordered was far too watery of a consistency for cheese dip, it made it feel cheap and disgusting. I have no idea who my waiter/waitress was because in the course of an hour of being there 5 different people showed up to my table. There was a major language barrier with most of the staff and they were mumbling the entire time which made it much worse to communicate properly. Not the best experience and the food was pretty sub par but cheap. Their bathrooms were difficult to get in to as they are a stand alone toilet and I wasn't about to wait in line for a quick wee before I left. My cup ran empty twice and at the end of the service I didn't know who to tip so I left a $20 on the table and hoped...
