This place, I don't even know about. It was nice, clean, the people were friendly and all of that, but the food was not what I expected. It wasn't bad or anything, but I ordered 3 tacos and 2 burritos for takeout. She asked me if I wanted beef or chicken. I said beef, thinking seasoned ground beef.
They were a little busy and she said it would be about 15 minutes, so I said I was going to run to the smoke shop next door and be right back.
So, I come back and she sees me come in the door. Says my order was ready, she'd be right out with it. She was, with two big bags, and said it would be thirty dollars and some change. Did I misunderstand her? Did she actually say thirty dollars and not thirteen dollars? Nope, I heard her right. Thirty bucks. For 3 tacos and 2 burritos.
Okay, so I knew this wasn't Taco Bell. Maybe I should have looked at a menu first to see what I was getting myself into, but this joint isn't exactly high-end either.
I didn't complain. I just asked her if she can take a debit card. She said yes, so I handed her my card, and she disappeared with it. She stopped at a table to check on them and then runs into the kitchen.
She comes back out a few minutes later with my card and a receipt for me to sign. I asked her why she disappeared with my card. She explained that their credit card processor was in the back office behind the kitchen. Well, that's kind of a weird place for it to be instead of next to the cash register, I thought. I even told her that if I saw any suspicious charges on my card, I was going to know where to come back to. She told me I had nothing to worry about, but it still seemed a little suspicious to me.
I got home and went to eat. I opened up the tacos. They looked more like a gyros folded like a tacos. It wasn't seasoned ground beef. It was steak sliced in long rectangular slices about a quarter inch wide and thick, varying in length. No seasoning. No cheese. Just unseasoned steak, that was actually a little tough, on a pita shell with a few sprinkles of parsley.
The burritos were the exact same thing, just larger. No flavor.
The only thing that saved the meal at all was the sauces. Everything came with a green sauce and a red sauce. Not sure exactly what either are called, but they were both good and spicy.
I didn't have any unauthorized charges to my card afterward, but I still can't be sure if it's only because I said something about it or not. Not to make any unfounded accusations, but I have heard of Mexican restaurants stealing credit card information and selling it to people in Mexico. It happened to one of my former coworker's mother.
If you choose to eat here, I hope this lets you know what to expect. I recommend paying in cash and reading...
Read moreI really like this place because they have authentic Mexican food. They don’t have a lot of options but the food, particularly the tacos, are some of the best in the area. I like that they have cabeza, which is either beef/pork head.
The place has a rustic feel, which I personally like. The prices are reasonable especially on weekdays for lunch. The music is appropriate…makes you feel like you’re in Mexico. It is also kept clean, which is always a must!
My only complaint is that the customer service could be a bit abrasive and at times poor. Also the fist time I ordered a tamale it was delicious, but the second time it was dry, like they left it in the oven uncovered for too long instead of keeping it in the steamer where it’s typically cooked and can be kept hot until it’s ready to serve. Overall I recommend it and it’s...
Read moreI was disappointed with this place. Given the location, I expected faster service times during lunchtime. Upon arrival they don't ask if you'd like to sit or order to go. We planned on eating there. We were put in a dark corner where we were forgotten about after we ordered. We were brought chips and salsa after the meal, and the chips were really stale. We had to ask for the check twice before going up to the register and paying. The person we asked to bring us the check tried to blame a waitress that wasn't serving our table. Overall I was really disappointed, but the tacos...
