Just returned from the most comically bad dinner. Against my better judgment, I decided to dine at Ruth's Chris instead one of the local steak options while I'm n Chesterfield. I've eaten at various Ruth's Chris plenty of times prior & figured it was dependable. I was wrong.

While I usually prefer dining at the bar, it was full; so I happily accepted a table in the dining room. My waiter came in hot. Without welcoming me or asking how I was, his first words were "Our best cuts are the cowboy ribeye, the porterhouse, and the tomahawk." It was very clear that I was dining alone. I'll give him the cowboy, but the other two are 40oz steaks (the porterhouse is listed "for 2"). But whatever, I get you're trained in the steakhouse hard sell.

He left me to look over the menu after pouring two waters for me (thank you, that was thoughtful). Returned about five minutes later, again coming in straight with "Can I get you a classic Old Fashioned with Woodford Double Oak?" That's very specific. I wanted a martini which I ordered. At the same time, I also ordered my food: ahi tuna appetizer and a petit filet (med rare) with asparagus.

Here's where things got ridiculous. Sat there waiting for my drink. It was not busy. No drink, but five minutes after ordering everything, my tuna appetizer comes out. So, I start eating the tuna. It's ice cold... like, straight out of the freezer. Looking at the menu again just now, it says "Seared" tuna, so I don't believe it should have been chilled, let alone ice cold; and the "spirited" sauce completely overpowered the tuna. If there was any searing done, it was before it was put back in the walk-in. They brought me some bread next (at least that was warm). Still no drink.

Finally, close to 15 min after ordering & long after having my bread and tuna dropped, my martini arrives. It was well made. But, literally one minuted later, while still eating the tuna, they bring out my steak. This is not how a higher end (or even mid level) restaurant should operate. No care was given to see how I was progressing through dinner; they just seemingly fired the steak as soon as my order was placed or when the tuna went out. The runner offered to hold it for me, but what's the point? It's already cooked sitting on a 500 degree plate at the table. Unless you're going to cook another steak while I finish my app and cocktail (which was not offered), holding it in the kitchen is pretty pointless. It was clear I was unhappy, but my waiter did not care. He eventually came back when I was halfway done to only ask how the steak was (it was cooked fine) and if I wanted a glass of wine with steak (too late, my man).

The rest of the dinner was whatever. The steak was cooked to medium rare; but the problem with Ruth's Chris, which I forgot, is they serve the meat on a 500 degree plate. I get that that's their thing, but while the steak was properly cooked when it hit the table, it continued to cook while I ate it. Clearly, I didn't eat it fast enough as it turned into a Medium steak and came dangerously close to Well by the time I finished my last bite. The asparagus, along with the bread and martini, were the stars of the dinner if you can call it that.

It was clear I was not happy with my dinner, but my waiter persevered. I rebuffed the obligatory dessert pitch and asked for the check. Which in a mostly empty restaurant at this point means another 10 minute wait (this is not an exaggeration). Also, my appetizer and bread were never cleared.

Finally, as if it couldn't get anymore ridiculous; while I was in the middle of signing the check, my waiter appears again offering an espresso martini "for dessert." I was a bit taken aback, and in my hesitation, he says, "Go ahead. Finish it." Super weird, but ok. I accepted. It was terribly sweet. If that's your thing, I'm sure you will like it.

I downed it in about three sips (OK, gulps) and walked out. Needless to say, I don't plan on returning. The next time I'm in Chesterfield, I'll probably go to Annie Gunn's if I...

I visit this location a few times every year, but this was my first time back in about 13 months. It took me a while to come back for a reason related to a funny story that I'll share with you. In February of 2023, I had hernia surgery that took a full three months to recover from, and about a week after the surgery was Valentine's Day. I was feeling so horrible I couldn't even get to Walgreen's to get a card and chocolate for my favorite lady in the world. So I promised her when I could put something other than sweats on, I would take bring her here - her favorite restaurant. In March, I decided to put on some proper attire and make a reservation, which I did and as soon as I was dressed, I knew it was a mistake - I was miserable. But I didn't complain and we headed out. The service that day was not the best and when I ordered Cindy a glass of Cabernet, I wasn't wearing glasses. As a rule, my policy, unless there's a specific wine I'm looking for, is to not get the least expensive nor the most expensive, but to find something on the lower end. I picked something for her, ordered myself a mixed drink and soon afterward, our steaks and sides came out. The steak was not up to snuff that night - still good, but not as good as it usually is here. I didn't complain, though and all I could think about was getting home and getting out of those clothes. The server asked if Cindy would like another glass of wine. Sometimes she says yes and other times she says no. That evening, she said no. We finished dinner, and the check came. It was over $500. At that point I found my glasses and saw that I had somehow ordered a $300 glass of wine. Thank goodness she refused the second one! I said nothing to Cindy, paid the check, and as we were walking out, I casually said, "I forgot to ask - how was your wine?" She replied, "It was alright." Once we were outside of the restaurant, I told her that was a pretty expensive glass of wine. She got upset and wanted to go back in to get our money back. I explained to her that I was the one who made the mistake, and the restaurant had done nothing wrong. The lesson was to wear glasses if you need them when you're ordering. I knew it would make for a good "I'm an idiot" story and that's worth $300 - isn't it? Anyway, I talked her out of going back in, but she still wanted to check the menu. I wanted to go home. She said she was going to go back in just to look at the menu. So I agreed but asked her to hurry because - as you know - I was ready to leave. Instead of that, she talked to the manager, whom she said was very nice, but rightly, he stated I ordered the wine, she drank it and that was that. At that point, she was upset, but I sided with the restaurant. I would have paid another $300 to be transported to my easy chair at home by now. Anyway, we left, I've told the story to friends and family a few times, and again, I absolutely do not blame Ruth's. However, I did take a year off, but this past weekend, Cindy celebrated her birthday, so I made a reservation and we went for a meal. Everything, as expected, was absolutely first rate, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and they even brought her out a mini carrot cake in honor of her birthday. It was the usual experience, and I find this location of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse to be first rate in every way, and my story was for entertainment purposes. It is not in any way meant to reflect badly on the restaurant. Thanks...

I had extremely high hopes for valentines dinner last night but I was so disappointed. Normally I try to avoid leaving bad reviews on restraunts because i understand the struggles, especially on very busy holidays such as valentines day which was last night. However with a price tag of over 250.00, I expected much better, so in return, Ruths Chris sorry but I am leaving a 2 star review and will not be returning. I had originally made reservations back in January for valentines night, and from prior experience at Ruth's chris I figured that we were in for a treat. We had a table scheduled for 930 I arrived at 925 and was told "we are running a little behind, you will be seated shortly." A little behind means 45 minutes, apparently. I went to check on the status at the 30 minuite mark and was told "oh sorry we thought you had left and we were looking for you, you will be up shortly" I was sitting in a set of chairs just beyond the front desk and no one came calling our party's name or looking for us. We were then seated shortly after however in a very poor seating situation. The table was the main issue it was extremely was wobbly so the entire length of the night it was rocking back and forth which was quite comical. Another issue which was on no part of Ruth's Chris we were placed next to two obnoxious parties, one of which was clearly more than a little bit drunk. It took a while to be served but eventually our waiter arrived with water. The waiter did not give us his name and he honestly seemed overworked, and from what I could tell probably just wanted the night end. He tried being professional and curtious but showed us little care we had to get his attention to get the drink menu and order beverages it seemed like he didn't bother with us until it was time to pay the check. The food was very middle of the road. My girlfriend ordered the filet and shrimp, lobster bisque, and a salad. The shrimp originally did not even come on the plate we had to make it known that we ordered steak and shrimp, the shrimp was then over cooked and had a rubbery texture, the steak was ice cold as if it had been sitting out all night and they served it on the same plate as the salad. The lobster bisque was over salty for no reason and finally the salad was fine no issues. We both received a loaf of bread, which was probably the best part of the meal it was warm and the butter was soft. I ordered the lamb chops and mashed potatoes. The lamb chops were very middle of the road they arrived on the signature 500 degree plate which was nice but they were very tough (I ordered them medium rare so maybe my fault?) and lacked the distinct flavor which lamb is known for. They honestly tasted like an over peppered steak if i had to compare them to something. I was disappointed as I rarely have lamb and always look forward to it, this however had to be the worst lamb I have had. The mashed potatoes were fantastic on the other hand there is honestly is nothing bad I can say about them, they were the pinnical of what mashed potatoes should strive to be. We also both ordered a desert. I ordered the chocolate cake and my girlfriend ordered the cheese cake. Both were fine, definitely not worth the 15 dollar price tag, but they were satisfying. So all in all Ruth's Chris sorry but we had a very poor time last night and will not be returning. I assume if I would have came on any other night it might have been a much different experience, but sadly that was...

It was our 6th Anniversary and we wanted something special to celebrate. The ambience and service in this place was top notch and coincides with the prices on the menu. We might be considered people that shouldn’t venture into such a place but again, we felt we could easily afford to spend a couple hundred on our special day. We didn’t see drink prices but ordered a wine for my wife and I want Drambuie on the rocks. Kept looking over the menu and passed on ordering the Tomahawk 40oz Ribeye priced at $135 since I knew also my wanted to not share this huge cut. He rattled off the specials elegantly and then suggested a special appetizer to start with and I asked him to show me this on the menu but he said they make it up special so I thought, why not, right? It was very delicious needless to say and we had the Lobster Bisque soup on the way next. It was also very good and was included in just my wife’s Classic Filet and Lobster priced at $78 bucks. The a-la-cart soup for me was $14 bucks. I ordered the “Bone In Filet” a 16oz priced at $72 bucks (another classic here) and found out I was charged $12 more for the au gratin Potatoes side and another $12 bucks for the side of corn. Never in my life have I eaten $100 bucks in one meal just for myself. I enjoyed my steak but couldn’t help but notice the size of the bone on my 16oz cut and after I was done, picked it up thinking it must weight almost 8oz of the $72 bucks I was to shell out. Again, all tasted great. We had no room for desert yet they brought out a treat because they knew of our special day and it was two cupcake size items; a carrot cake and cheese cake with “Happy Anniversary” written in cholate on the plate. Had to taste it and again, very yummy. Hard to say I’d recommend this place to others unless you just have money falling out of your butt as he brought the bill out on a tablet device already showing the tip choice of 20%. But the bill came to $319 bucks and right away I thought there was no way this guy was making $60 bucks for taking our order especially when others dressed in black brought the hot food out. I have a heart condition though it was our special day, I maintained composer. No matter, we’d pay for our pour judgement and saw he broke down the cost of the appetizer to $26 for the 2 crab cakes that sat on top of the 2 large shrimp at $12 with the 5 tiny pieces of Voodoo style shrimp at $13 for a total of $51 bucks for an appetizer. Yeah! This seemed deceptive to me overall and why they lose 2 stars. Additionally, they sat us at a two-person booth closest to the kitchen door and along all the wine coolers. Wasn’t so romantic to say the least. In short, I’d just advise anyone even those with tons of money to be wise to the order they make here. We talked about it while the Valet guy out front took the man with a suite walking out after me before me; was it my leather jacket.? Maybe I looked like an Uber driver to him. We decided special occasion or not, next time we do the Texas Road House or Outback and walk away just about as satisfied and for under $100 bucks.
