I ordered take out. The lady that took my order over the phone was not helpful. I wanted to upgrade sides and get a extra side, but she said they do not do half orders of onion rings when it says on the website menu they do. She made me feel like I was trying to not pay for the premium or extra sides. I told her what I wanted on the phone, twice and said well just give me a full order if I can't get a half order. As she hung up the phone I can hear her make a snide comment. I get there and let the bartender know I'm there for pick up. She gives me an itemized receipt for $42 And change. I notice the 2 baked potatoes and salad are not on the receipt, so I inquire about it. She tells me she will find out. The lady who took my order comes over after i mention that the website had the half order of onion rings when you purchase an entree. She proceeds to argue with me and say that I TOLD her to ring it up that way, because I told her to put the baked potato on the order. She berates me at the bar, and I don't feel like arguing with her again, so I just way whatever. She brings me my food and I tell her thank you, and she just flips her heels and walks away. So rude. The food was hot, jalapeno caps were good, baked potato cooked good. Steak wasn't expecting Ruth's Chris, but to my surprise it was cooked relatively close to temp. Read moreGood ole’ Wente’s. I have been coming to this place for decades. Years ago, it was a very smoky joint, but recently it seems all smoking is on a covered patio. I have not encountered anyone smoking since the last ten trips I have been. It has recently changed ownership, and it appears the new owner is making this joint rock. The food is phenomenal. I like the pizzas, and the burgers. The real test was when I went in and met Rochelle (I probably y spelled it wrong…sorry!!). She was tending bar and had a great personality. She was very welcoming. I ordered a long island and it was one of the best. I knew then I was dealing with a professional. Making the perfect long island is a skill not many bartenders have. She took care of us during our entire visit. What a nice place to go. It seems they are staged properly, there are several servers stopping by, making sure you do not need anything. It is a tag team effort ensuring all customers are taken care of. Now, it would not be fair to say only Rochelle made the best Long Island. On another occasion, a different bartender, (sorry I cannot remember her name, only blonde hair). I hesitated to ask for the long island, but I did, and it was delish too. KUDOS. Read moreI had been coming here for 2-3 years and for all that time this would have been and EASY 5 Star review as it was a hidden gem, existing inconspicuously outside of the glitzy "The Valley" spotlight. Simple, unassuming, good food and decent people of all walks of life. Many a deep, honest conversation about any range of topics could be had here. And, I certainly appreciate them for staying open during shutdown and preserving a sense of normality against the rest of the world's insanity.
Unfortunately, it appears with new ownership that this establishment has "The Valley" splashing all over it. Over the past 6-12months, the staff has turned over and a lot of the old favorites are gone.
I barely recognize the crowd, too as it seems to have been replaced with one that is plastic and shallow, consumed by greed
Worst of all, I literally can no longer afford to eat/drink here. Perhaps that's "by design" and a feature not a bug as it helps to get the "right" crowd into a place. It's hard not to realize I'm part of the crowd they no longer want there. So be it...
