Recently I reached out to Root & Bone to inquire about having a small bridal shower in their private event space. I received a phone call from the manager, Ryan, and he seemed rather abrupt and wanted my email to send the information to me. I asked him before we did that, did he have the room available for that weekend, and he very rudely said, "I don't know right now. I have to look, and then I will put everything in the email. Do you want me to send the information to you or not?" I quickly said, "Yes, please." He said, "Okay. I'll get it out to you." I said, "Thank you," and then he just hung up the phone. My sister and I were out and about later that evening. She had never been there, so we decided to stop and take a peek at the room and have a dessert. I asked the hostess a general question about whether they rent both rooms, and she took it upon herself to get Ryan. I never asked for him. He showed up and said, "Can I help you?" not in a friendly way but more of a "What the heck are you doing here?" way by the look on his face and tone of his voice. I said hello and asked if he was who I had talked to earlier. His response was "Yes. Did you respond to my email? No." Feeling a little uncomfortable at this point, I told him we just stopped in to take a peek. He answered a couple questions, said if we had any more to let him know and took off. I decided right then and there I would not have it there. He was clearly annoyed by having to bother with me from start to finish. I talked to many venues, and this was by far my worst interaction. We stayed for coffee and dessert, though. With all that being said, the food and servers are exceptional every time I've been there, which is really a testament to those servers because I could not imagine working for someone like that and still be able to separate it and not let it affect my general mood and demeanor with the customers. ...
Read moreTraveling through from Chicago to northern Indiana I made a stop at Root and Bone for a late dinner. Had a wonderful experience. Did happen to catch it when it was not busy and service was prompt and non-intrusive. Atmosphere was low-key. I ordered the beet starter and was not disappointed. In fact, it was layered with flavor in a thoughtful way. The shredded sweet beets were topped with a very light horseradish dusting which did not blow out your sinuses, marinated capers and accompanied by salty crisp waffle chips. Could’ve made anyone a beet lover with its layering of flavors. My entrée was brisket Meatloaf. Again a lovely layering of flavors and Imaginative presentation of a brisket pot roast. It was unaccompanied by the expected binders one would find with “meat-loaf “. Squares of chopped brisket had a light crust that contrasted nicely with the soft moist meat, which was then topped with a tomato jam. The tomato jam nicely broke up the savoriness of the plate. Mashed potatoes were the only disappointment. The bland potatoes were a bit too moist for my liking. This was accentuated by the gravy, ladled over them making for a distracting “ potato “ sauce to the dish. Sturdier potatoes with a contrasting flavor would have enhanced this root and contrasted with the savory gravy. To keep things light when I resumed my drive, I didn’t indulge in dessert though the menu featured some interesting desserts that I plan to try in the future. Don’t think I can drive by again...
Read moreWas passing through and decided to give it a try. Food is Southern Style with a fancy twist. Our server Sam was impeccable. The restaurant is cute and very clean. It is not very big so tables are close together. The only negative is that it is VERY loud in there. Started with the “BLT” appetizer, fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, bacon and pork belly on them. They were phenomenal, worth the trip alone! I had the famous fried chicken. It is served à la cart, but has a spicy honey sauce with it. The sauce was not spicy and tasted more like a sweet and sour sauce to me. We also tried the brisket meatloaf. This was served with whipped potatoes, beef gravy, broccolini and tomato jam all of which was phenomenal. The meat fell apart and was so flavorful. We tried the r&b fries they are served with a chunky Remoulade and homemade ranch. The sauces were great the fries were not warm and not crispy, I would not bother next time. We also tried the angel biscuits and I will tell you right now they are the best biscuits we have ever had! Our cocktails were delicious. We had the chocolate pecan cobbler and it was amazing! They have their own parking lot. Bathrooms were big and clean and staff was friendly and helpful! It was a bit pricey, but not bad for the quality and amount of food we got with tip it was $150. We will definitely go there again if...
