Al's Diner — Restaurant in Chicopee

Update February 28/2025 Costas "Gus" Mathews is the owner and cook of this amazing diner. He started working here back in 1974. You can feel his pride in ownership and the history of the diner in his attitude and cooking. I've never seen him write a order down and he always gets the orders right even when the diner is packed and busy. The food here is very comforting and they have a great menu.Thanks for everything Gus. Update June 22/2023 Always great food served fast. Nice laid back atmosphere. Try the yellow pea soup for a nice treat. Update: January 04/2022 Still one of my favorite diners. Wonderful breakfast as always. I had the western omelette, bacon, breakfast potatoes, rye toast and hot coffee today. The food was hot, yummy and healthy sized portions. The service is always friendly and fast. The atmosphere is 100% authentic American diner. Down to earth people, comfortable and safe. Very clean. Nice and warm in there on this cold day. They also have a extensive menu with daily specials. Family friendly.

The heavy set girl that works there is rude. From the moment I walked into the restaurant. I sat down with my son and she was already rude. I asked for coffee and the coffee wasn’t strong enough which was fine I didn’t want the coffee. There was a hair in my plate she was mad at me because I asked for a new plate. then I told her not to make my plate because of her attitude. I went up to pay for my pancake and two juices. She going to charge me for the coffee anyways. Then I told her why she charge me for coffee when I told her I didn’t want it. She ganna say” if you didn’t put a tone of milk in it.” First off they damn near til the cup of coffee where there’s barely no room for creamer. So there wasn’t a tone of creamer and even if still the coffee would have been stil strong enough. Then she throws the money at me for the coffee. She nasty and she miserable. I told her why she has an attitude she couldn’t answer the question and I also told her I’m not here to argue with her so I wasn’t sure why she has to be so nasty. First off, this is a cute little diner right under the bridge. The parking is ample, but depending on the time of day, it could be a nightmare. The food is diner food nothing really to right home about. However, the owner is amazing they treat people like people here. There isn't an awkward silence when you walk in or unwelcoming stares. I had the pleasure of meeting the mother years ago, and when I finally visited the diner, it was exactly how I expected it to be. When you're raised with values,dignity, and respect for all, it shows in WHATEVER you do. She was amazing and in the climate were in sometimes you just want to BE.
