When you walk in, the first thing that hits you is the bakery. Pastries, coffee cakes, and even elephant ears. I almost forgot I came here to dine. The wait wasn't very long at noon. The seating is tight, but you have enough room to eat. Our drink order was promptly taken, but after this is where it takes a left. We looked at the menu while we waited for seating so we knew what we wanted. However, we waited 11 minutes to give our order. By this time, I was irritated because I thought this was normal, but the next people that were sat near us our waitress asked them right away if they were ready to order. Then she comes back to tell me I can't have grits because they ran out and I can't have the crab cake because they don't have that either. Shouldn't you know that already. Well anyway, our food comes out brought by the cashier. It is beautiful, fresh, tasty, and warm. Big plus on fresh!! It was delicious. I love coffee, but I never received a refill. My children wanted more water, but the person walking around filling glasses never came to us. Our waitress only came back to drop off the $55 check. Wait, she did come back to take the empty plates. So you would think the next step would be to cash us out. Nope. She kept on taking orders. Unbelievable! So I went to the cashier and I was instructed to wait for our waitress. I advised her she wouldn't come to us so she went to get the tablet to check us out. Not our waitress. She didn't even come up to us in a last ditch effort and apologize. I overheard her tell someone this was her 2nd Sunday working there, but had been in the business for years. For the price of the meal, I would hope for better service regardless of the person...

All baked goods were amazing, and the jet fuel, or rather coffee, def did the job. Tried calling back a couple times and don't want to lose anymore of my day over it, but was def overcharged. 6 pachsey (not sure how to spell it) is 12, 2 cinn rolls is 8.5, 1 rasp orange muffin, 1 scone, and 1 turnover = 12.5, thats 31, had a 16oz latte and 16oz capp drink w/ 1 pump, unless the 2 coffees and tax was another 34, the 65.68 i paid was likely about 20 more than required, throw in a 5 tip and im left feeling a lil slighted. Sorry, no receipt, my wife tapped the no receipt, I think a team member (the lady who made our coffees) heard me say why did you do that, im pretty sure we were overcharged. We were guest #6 on cider century Saturday. Again, all products we received were amazing, but the way multiple people were calling out to the cashier coupled with my wife chatting her up at the same time led to a 50% opportunity cost on my end, starting the day off...

Awful place. They still had their open sign on at 2:07pm. Still had guests outside eating. My husband and I walked in with our 6year old. The bakery has 2 entrances. We are looking in the glass case and the baked goods. The cashier has even greeted us. Then, some lady walks up to us( in front of at least 6 other guests at tables eating and drinking coffee) and tells us she is sorry but they are closed. She said ā€œ did you sneak in the side entrance?ā€ It was a clearly marked second entrance right on the front wall of the store. It was not only incredibly rude, but it was embarrassing. We walked in an open entrance door. There was still several people there. All of the baked goods were still in the case. She shooed us out, walking behind us and saying sorry. My 6 year old was quite disappointed and said ā€œ mom why wouldn’t that lady let us get something when all those people were still eating?ā€Apparently, they closed at 2pm. Awful. I will never...

We went in on a whim about an hour before they closed on a Saturday afternoon. The cake donuts were FANTASTIC! I wish we had bought more! Lol But, we also wanted to try the State of Michigan shaped cookies(one sugar and one ginger molasses) and a jumbo toffee cookie. Here are my humble opinions on each: Sugar Cookie - baked perfectly, soft, but didn't taste like real butter was used. I'm spoiled on my own homemade sugar cookies. Ginger Molasses - also perfectly baked and soft, but not spicy enough for me. I wanted more ginger and more molasses flavor. Both cookies - being part Yooper, I'm sad that da UP is missing, eh. šŸ˜‰ Jumbo Toffee - the white chocolate chips inside take away from the toffee flavor. Plus, I've never really been a fan of white chocolate. Cake donuts - phenomenal in every way, and I want more already. 😁 Their hours of operation are limited, so be sure to check if they're open before going. We will definitely be back, thank you!

Luisa’s Cafe has THE best breakfast in the area. We went in today with my hubby and there’s a special for Santa Lucia. I had my favorite that is the Waffle Sandwich (GF by the way) and to go along with that we had the special seasonal Limpa French Toast (totally delicioso! The blend in between the anise taste from the bread and real maple syrup is fantastic). Hubby had the Swedish Meetballs with Hasselback potatoes and house salad. Not only the food at the cafe is amazing, right attached to it, is the traditional Harbert Swedish Bakery where they serve all kinds of special lattes and have a wide variety of bake goods. We could not walk out the door without a Grandma’s Cookie and a Lemon Blueberry Scone (also GF).

Unique place we found on our way from the Warren Dunes. As we are from Europe, pastries and desserts here are often too sweet for us - it was different at Luisa’s. The baked goodies they make are perfectly balanced and indeed could be made by a Swedish pastry chef. They even have their version of Polish pączki (donuts)! We got a lot of coffee cakes and some good bread. On top of delivering all this baked goodness, they are really nice people. A perfect welcoming experience when you are in Michigan for the first time.
