The owners did not want to hear about the suspicious act by the cashier, who did not produce a printed receipt, at the counter, then, told us we have to pay for an item we did not receive, that we had already paid for. He would not show the transaction history on his screen. So, we paid.
When we found out, in original order receipt in Square Emails, everything was paid, but we were forced to pay again for 1 item.
What the cashier did was disturbing, especially similar suspicious acts were spotted in the past years in similar setting of take out stores on MV. We wrote to the store, but, they did not respond.
We called to report its double charge. Then the owner K Larsen was upset, and started to comment in a racially biased way. Then she pulled up another receipt, that is not ours, furthermore, as she was getting angry and unprofessional, she did not even comprehend the 2nd transaction of the same item should be refunded, but she hung up before any resolution was made.
Then, the cashier started to lie that the 2nd transaction was not a charge, but, a refund credit. He is clearly lying. This is exactly what we wanted to avoid, and to speak to the owner, directly.
We asked for the refund in the email, after seeing the email receipts from SQAURE. The 2nd receipt clearly showed it was a double charge, not a refund or a cancellation. But the store or SQUARE never responded to us.
We could not keep our guards up, while the email receipt was not accessible immediately in Menemsha, and when the store practices not to give out the printed receipt and we had no idea this could become ugly from the way the owner handled it.
The owner, K Larsen was refusing to hear or look into the concern of the suspicious acts, of double charging, and neglecting the immediate complaint in writing for days afterwards.
Instead, K Larsen told us to deal with the very same cashier as she could not understand my English.
(-) *Her prejudicial bias is blunt and her insulting nature should not be directed to local customers, for the store's mistakes/mishandling. And, hanging up each time.
Both the owner and the cashier refused to show the proof of cancelation of the double charge, or to confirm the refund amount.
To us, she gave up to be the responsible business operator, and, although we begged her to be calm, and we are all locals, she couldn't keep herself cool.
And, the cashier will say anything to confuse his boss ladies, but, we are not fooled, and we know what he did.
How they handled this petty issue actually matches their food qualities, too. Just overpriced for their average quality.
Be wary of the double charges, by the cashier, followed with INSULTING MISTREATMENT by the owner.
Hear this, these folks, just wrote the 2nd transaction of the double charge, was indeed a refund. They do not comprehend anything.
AGAIN, WE HAVE EMAIL RECEIPTS OF "CHARGES" from SQUARE, and the 2nd transaction was NOT a CREDIT or REFUND as...
Read moreIt's hard to imagine that I'd give five stars to any place that's best amenity is a set of screen doors and some fish tanks. However, the seafood slingers at Larsen's absolutely deserve each star, if not six. Heck, if this were Michelin, it'd be three stars, because I'd travel far for this experience.
You drive to a distant point on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Along this essentially fisherman's wharf, there is one seafood shack, then Larsen's, then a Texaco that looks 80 years old. At the end there is a beach, along one side is a (surprisingly clean) public restroom, often visited by fishermen; along the other side, an active pier for commercial boats.
In the middle is Larsen's, and as far as we can tell the only place on Earth.
Before coming to the island we received input from numerous people, with a variety of recommendations. The most consistent from everyone was this little shack. Turns out the family at Larsen's supplies a good portion of the seafood to the island and own other shacks as well. However, we were in love here. Everything was so fresh! We stopped in one day, spent over $80 on lightly steamed shellfish and lobster rolls before 11am; we were back the next afternoon and spent over $100. And the six of us considered that cheap!
Some of what we ate: the cleanest littleneck clams (lightly steamed) we ever had. We were told these littlenecks tend to not suck in sand so they don't even need to be spit. Very sweet mussels, lightly steamed. 3-4 lobster rolls (hot), we asked for no butter, it's served mayo-less (you can add tartar sauce or chipotle mayo, they're both solid). These were hands down the best lobster rolls we've had, far surpassing anything from Maine! We ate a three pound lobster, which was a bit over-cooked and tough. We ate numerous Katama bay freshly shucked oysters; holy cowsers, they were phenomenal, we kept asking for more. We ate freshly shucked raw littlenecks. We have to say all the raw food was shucked expertly, with maximum liquor and minimal grit. We ate wonderful, sweet steamers, lightly steamed. And we had quahogs, which were good but no better than others we've had.
There was always plenty of lemon, sauces, and horseradish to be had. but we barely used any. Nothing needed it!
We also tasted a variety of prepared items, the stuffed clam, crab cake, and soup, but all were mediocre. Just don't waste your time, focus on the golden pot, them came from the steam pots. It's worth however long...
Read moreWe tried the crab cakes, stuffed clams, stuffed scallops, clam chowder, and warm lobster rolls (warm ones are made to order, and cold ones are available for grab-and-go from the refrigerator in the waiting area), and all the food was delicious and reasonably priced for the area. The stuffed scallops and stuffed clams were very large (they use large shells to stuff) and tasty, but you don't need to get both if you're torn about which one to go for because they taste very similar. The clam chowder was very light yet flavorful. The lobster rolls were very simple but had all the elements for a delicious lobster roll. Overall, the food made for a delicious last meal on the island.
There's an outdoor area with picnic tables for people to enjoy their food.
Tips: Call ahead to order. My order took about 40 minutes
Areas for improvement: I realllyyyy wish the waiting area was larger because standing space is limited and hard to tell - upon entry - whether someone is waiting in line to order or whether they're just waiting for their name to be called to pick up their food. I know the place just underwent a renovation and that this suggestion is not feasible At one point, I was next in line but the 5 or so people packing up orders took forever to notice me. It seemed a little disorganized because nobody had any specific task (labeling, calling out names, packing orders, etc.); instead, the employees seemed to be doing a little bit of everything all at once. Meanwhile, my food had been ready for pick up for a while and I just needed to let an employee know I was there after placing a phone order Priced online are impossible to find, so I attached the prices as of late September. I realize seafood is sold at the current market...
