My wife recently came by and tried their burger, and liked it. I am more of a southern home-cooked meal kind of guy, and my wife told me they had meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, etc. so today I tried it for the first time under the new ownership. I will be very honest in my review by saying it was just okay, but let me start first with the things that were excellent First, the place is very neat and clean, has a relaxing old time diner atmosphere, and the service was outstanding. The restroom was also very clean and well stocked. I would also say the pricing is right in line with other similar places. This is what I ordered, and my honest opinion of each item. I ordered the meatloaf, and it was not very good at all. It seemed to have way more bread than meat, and after they sliced it, they grilled the slices, and it was slightly scorched, which gave it a bad aftertaste. Also, what little meat was actually in it tasted like a low grade of meat. I put barbecue sauce on top and it helped greatly, but it just wasn't that great to begin with. The macaroni and cheese, as well as the creamed corn, were both very delicious. I saw in the kitchen they apparently make homemade cornbread, but I opted for the rolls, thinking even if they weren't homemade, they would be Sister Schubert or similar, but they were the taste and texture of a small hamburger bun. They had also been microwaved, and as they cooled, they got very tough very quickly. They only had one dessert today, (as the lady who normally bakes cakes for them is home sick) and it was apple cobbler. Apple is not my favorite, but I wanted to try it, until I was told the owner wouldn't allow them to give me the toffee ice cream instead of the vanilla unless I wanted to pay for an extra scoop of ice cream, whether I got the vanilla or not. The cobbler was $3.99 plus tax to start with (too expensive anyway) but to want to add a couple more dollars to that simply for choosing one flavor of ice cream over another flavor is ridiculous! I personally feel any restaurant owner who makes up such ridiculous rules doesn't deserve my money. I also think any country cooking restaurant needs to either make homemade rolls, or serve good ones. I ate my meal, canceled the dessert, and I drove to Randall's Restaurant a couple of miles away for dessert. Overall, not a BAD meal for the price (BUT not a place I would recommend to friends, either). This was a once and done visit for me.
UPDATE: To the owner of Drew's On Main: 3 weeks ago, you replied to my honest review without even addressing a single one of my concerns. I had a lot of good to say about your restaurant, but I am very honest from all angles. Everything else aside, I would love for you to respond about why a cobbler that is already priced at $4 that already includes vanilla ice cream, why would I have to pay for a separate scoop of ice cream to substitute for a different flavor of ice cream? I would still be only getting one scoop, but be charged for 2 Scoops. Please explain how in anyone's mind this makes sense. If it had not been for this policy of cheating the customer, I would have come back and tried the burger, and I would have paid the $4 for the cobbler that day. Making up ridiculous rules paying customers are expected to go by if they choose to spend their money there has already cost you my business, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Again, please explain this in a way that makes sense to...
Read moreI’d love to try the food here but this place is never open. Just about every day on Facebook they announce they are closing early or won’t be open. I guess this is just a place for elderly or retired folks. If you work an 8-5 Monday thru Friday and don’t get home til after 6, there’s not much hope of eating here. Closed on the weekends.I miss when this used to be Dairy Hart.
In response to the owner’s childish reply: and savvy business owners usually don’t get on Google and argue with people’s reviews, they realize that everyone is going to have an opinion about your business and take the constructive criticism on the chin and move on. When you choose to open a business no one is going to care what you have going on outside of that business, your goal is to get customers to come in and eat at your establishment. You can’t just argue with everyone who has...
Read moreBeen eating here for years. Our go to place on Friday nights and a place that should have a huge restaurant as the food is that good! When I recommend places to eat this is always at the top. They have Friday fish night. They fry and grill fish in big pieces. They have a few different seasonings for the grilled fish. The meatloaf is very unique and tasty. The sauce does not have a lot of ketchup in it. Even non-meatloaf lovers should enjoy it. Very good cake! The cake has mousse frosting and they are all delicious. Enjoy how they rotate the...
