Got a chance to check out the Jug Handle with my buddies Eric and Aaron. I've heard many people have many different opinions of this spot so I knew I had to go and find out for myself. Got some Carolina Buffalo BBQ wings, some Tony Bruno wings, and a side of the Bald Eagle (their spiciest sauce) sauce on the side to dip into. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The dining room was pretty much just a basic bar/restaurant dining room but they do have outdoor seating during nice weather and a basement seating area as well.
The Tony Bruno wings are a blend of Honey BBQ and Medium garlic so they are very similar to a Mchales/Buffacue sauce with some added garlic flavor. I knew I'd enjoy this sauce just from the description. The wings were massive and they were breaded wings. They were crunchy for breaded wings (I often find breaded wings to get soggy in sauce and not have much crunch) and I enjoyed these, but I will say that I do honestly prefer a smaller wing...even if that sounds crazy. Smaller wings in my opinion are able to have a nice crunch in each bite and the center of the wing cooks to a nicer consistency than when they are very large.
The Carolina Buffalo BBQ was interesting and not exactly what I expected. I did find these to have good flavor but I was kind of expecting a Carolina mustard and hot sauce blend and it was more of a BBQ/buffalo which made it similar in flavor minus the honey to the Tony Bruno. They looked as though they'd have a mustard flavor but it got lost in the other flavors of this sauce. I don't think I personally would get this flavor again just for that reason, but I didn't dislike them.
The Bald Eagle is hot. There's really all there is to that. It smelled like straight super hots and it tasted like super hots. That is where my time with the Bald Eagle starts and ends haha.
Price was a bit more than I expected but wings these days are through the roof anywhere you go. The Jug Handle Inn - Didn't Suck!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was great place, a little low key, mildly priced bar that had great food. I wanted my daughter, who shares my love of wings with me, to experience some of the finest chicken wings out there. Since we live over 35 minutes away, I placed an order over the phone for 30 medium wings, blue cheese & celery. When I returned home, opened the bag, then the lid of the aluminum container, we were disappointed to find the there was only a small amount of wing sauce on the 30 wings & there wasnāt any celery. This was over a $50 order including the gratuity. We made do with the situation & I didnāt want to appear that I was no very pleased with what we received , thus not wanting to call a bar to complain at 5:15pm. I figured Iād stop in the next day or two & find out what, if anything can or could be done. I went back 2 days later ( remember, Iām nearly 40 minutes away), talked with the same waitress who took the order, retrieved the order for me & explained what occurred, I even told her there were around 12 wings remaining at home. She told me, I should have called right away, that only then something could have been done & thereās nothing that can be done regarding it. I asked 3 times, if she was sure about it & she continued to say the same thing. Hereās what could have been done with a little tact , understanding, intellect, ā would you like a couple little cups of sauce since you still have some wings at home & I will get some celeryā,ālet me talk to my bossā, ā can get you a couple free beers ā. ā gift card?ā. Any & all would have kept me from writing this. I know the place has changed from 25 plus years ago but Good Customer Service never goes...

I stepped in the door at 11:45am (just before the lunch rush) and not seeing anyone who looked like wait-staff, smiled politely at a woman behind the bar. "What's that look for?" she said with a tint of hostility. The experience went downhill from there. I seated myself and there was only a drinks menu. I saw a rack of folded paper menus, so I took one to be able to order immediately when any of the wait staff did notice me. That took more than 10 minutes. After ordering, (bear in mind, this is before the lunch rush) its another 15 minutes until my Corned Beef Reuben comes out. A Reuben is my favorite hot sandwich, so I order it a lot of places I go. I nearly choked on this one: the meat was as thick and tough as the sole of my shoe! I have never had worse corned beef, and there's only one way to make this forgiving brisket tough: cooking it too fast. Since I was on a schedule, I choked down half the sandwich, then flagged down the waitress and asked for the check. She collected the crockery, and disappeared. And I waited...and waited some more. Just before I was ready to do jumping-jacks to get her attention, she finally made her way around to me and asked me if I wanted the check. (Read the paragraph above.) Yes. Yes, I wanted my check so I could leave The Jug Handle Inn and not come back. For the poor service, the rude greeting, and the poor food, I provided a 60% tip. At least my beer was cold which was consolation for being 20 minutes late back to work. Maybe the evening staff is better. The lunch...
