I came to Back Alley very near closing time which could be why the quality did not feel like it was there. I got the 2 combo platter and here are my thoughts (They did give me a side of collard greens extra to try but after the review you will see I didnt have much of an appetite afterwards)
The Brisket was almost half fat and seems to be the side the seasoning was focused on cause the brisket itself was brown with little seasoning coming through. The fat cap didnt seem to be trimmed at all for it so it was a solid 1 1/2 of pure fat with the rub on top(it was melt in ur mouth and with the meat part it was better. Overall Brisket is a 2/5 for me
The Ribs were almost a choking hazard for me. They were bone dry. It was like eating jerky with extra grease on it. The seasoning from the little i forced my self to eat was good. It was well seasoned and seems to be a case of I came to late. Overall Ribs 1/5 for me
My sides were just mac and cheese as im not a big beans or coleslaw guy. The mac and cheese was good and was still creamy and well seasoned . The Mac and Cheese was a 4/5
Overall I want to give this place another try and maybe edit my review unfortunately with it being 42 bucks for that combo. I don't know if i want to spend that money for something that might disappoint me again. I love trying local foods whenever I go to a new area but this just was...
Read moreI will tell you never judge a book by its cover I pull up to back alley there was a nice elderly woman on the porch standing in the doorway she smiled and said hello she was outside smoking a cigarette so I had to walk through the cigarette smoke ok I'm past that now I'm inside now the establishment is brightly lit the owners were very friendly and people pleasing so I look around the establishment the dinning room is very clean and brightly lit but I look down on the floor at the counter and sit down area the chairs at the counter area the counter and floor desperately needs freshening up the outside of the establishment desperately needs freshening up everything looks old and worn BUT like I said never judge a book by its cover the ribs were fork tender not mushy you could cut the ribs with a fork the sauce I haven't tasted anything like that up this way the last time I tasted sauce like that I was in Baltimore harbor and the restaurant called it luna sauce for their wings delicious tender ribs at back alley the greens were good maybe just a tad sweet but delectable not bitter the fries were horrible but I haven't tasted anybodies take out fries that traveled that taste good so if you order the fries eat them there the food is worth the trip the establishment just could use some freshening up and the elderly woman should smoke in the back of...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place but it was laughably bad. I want to say the staff was very nice and the service was great!
I ordered the ribs, yams, and Mac and cheese. The ribs had no seasoning and NO smoke flavor. The ribs weren’t trimmed before cooking so they were fatty and greasy and still had that tough membrane on the back. They looked and tasted as if they were precooked in an oven or boiled as there was no bark on the meat. The bbq sauce that was served with it was absolutely disgusting. It was runny/watery and looked like used motor oil. The taste was very weird, unlike any sauce I’ve had before. I don’t even know how to describe it. The greens were out of a can and had way too much vinegar, black pepper, and sugar. The Mac and cheese was box mix that had been doctored up by adding some grated cheese on top and baking it.
My son had the brisket and it was brown and gray in color. There was no bark on that so I’m guessing it too was precooked in an oven or boiled. I didn’t taste it be he told me it was under seasoned, tough, and had no smoke flavor.
The portions were so big that the food was served in 9x13 pan. The prices were reasonable. But the taste was sooo bad. I don’t see how someone can run a bbq restaurant with canned and boxed food products and not fully cook their meats in a smoker. We definitely...
