New Panda — Restaurant in City of Binghamton

Normally I get delivery from here, but the last time, the 20min wait turned into over an hour. I called back just before the one hour mark to make sure they were still coming since it was now nearing their closing time. The person that answered seemed flustered and confused about my order and address, but our food arrived about 15-20mins later and the order was correct. I figured they must have been very busy or just having an off night. (Important to note that I live only 2 blocks away from this place, and since moving here in January, I’ve ordered delivery from them 9 times) Last week when I couldn’t ignore the craving anymore, I figured I may as well save myself the $2 delivery fee and walk in to order and take home. I could comment on the atmosphere and how unwelcoming and disorganized it felt, but post-pandemic, I feel that a lot of places have this same ambiance about them. The woman that took my order wasn’t necessarily rude, but she certainly wasn’t hospitable in any way and seemed somewhat annoyed that I was there, even though I was the only customer in sight. I sat at one of the tables in the abandoned restaurant section to wait and watched several people leave with deliveries. My order was ready fairly quickly (garlic chicken with mixed veggies, pork fried rice and an egg roll combo meal) The total came to $8.37, I gave her $20.37 and she handed me a $10 bill, shorting me $2 I had planned on tipping them anyway. Unfortunately, this didn’t even register with me as I fished around my purse for singles to leave rather than bother her (again) and ask if she had change for the $10 bill.. and unfortunately, I did have $2 which I handed her as I walked out the door. I have never once NOT tipped and am generally very gracious with my gratuity on delivery. It really irritates me that she took it upon herself to assume her own tip directly from the change I was owed and THEN accepted more cash from me without a single word. I don't know why there are so many people here complaining about this place. Yes the lady that answers the phone may be a little grumpy at times, but wouldn't you be grumpy as well if you were taking orders on the phone every 3 to 5 minutes while tending to walk-ins as well as helping out with the kitchen? Not to mention that god only knows what kind of rude people they have to deal with both on the phone and walk-in on a daily basis. I kill the lady with kindness, I've even ordered a couple of times to stay and she brings my order over with no issues (even struck up a conversation with me once about my iPhone). Needless to say the food, is good, I will go as far as saying that it's the best Chinese food in the area (their chicken wings are nice and crispy). The only reason I won't give them 4 stars is because, yes, the lady can be a little rude at times and perhaps that is an area where the establishment as a whole can improve on (perhaps provide her with a little more help in taking orders and tending to customers). This is my favorite Chinese food place in the area. I’m sorry I don’t have photos, and will try to make a conscious effort at least once to take photos. Realistically, I’m too busy eating it the instant I get it. I always order the shrimp egg rolls! These are my favorites and I judge Chinese food places by them. I used to go to the place by Weis, but it has changed and their shrimp rolls have an overtly vinegar taste. Not here, at New Panda, they’ve converted me to their fried deliciousness! I’ve also had Chicken and Broccoli regular and steamed, wonton soup, fried chicken wings, sesame chicken, pepper steak with onions, and fried dumplings all throughout the course of my ordering history. I enjoyed all of them. My boyfriend ordered sweet and sour chicken for his son recently, which naturally he had to taste-test, he loved it. He said he’d get that next time. Every time I order here, except for maybe twice, we go and pick it up because I’m in the area. Each time, including the deliveries the food is delivered hot. There’s never been an issue with any of their food....
