UPDATE!!! We decided to give a second chance and had called to see if they could accommodate an 11 top, we where told 30 min. We went in and where put at 2 seperate tables, then drink orders where taken no issues yet...but then we ordered food and this is where it all went horribly wrong. 3 peoples food came out breakfast sandwhiches and pancakes...all cold...not made correct...but we let that slide and started eatting. Next sets of food was another 20 min!!! From the time the 1st set came and the last 2 where given food it was over an hour and she was making comments about us being there too long before our last 2 even had food!!! At this point the waitress was openly accusing us of being a problem for her to anyone that would listen!! She was arguing with the cook and a nice lady who worked next door tried to apologize for her behavior as well as the other staff member who was really nice. She claimed we where switching seats and noone moved at all. I went to the kids table once to help ensure the order was right. I paid the bill and eventhough noone else wanted to tip I was going to as I used to grill cook and serve (at the same time and handled my customers way better than this!) She looked right at me before I could hand her the money and she said you guys are so unreal. I still left a $20 on the table...with all the mistakes if she had been nice atleast she would've gotten atleast triple that. Maybe when someone calls don't accept what you cannot handle but you don't openly insult customers to anyo e that would listen. Especially when we dis...
Read moreSunshine Diner is a small, family-owned restaurant that exudes warmth and hospitality, largely thanks to its extremely welcoming owner and waitress. From the moment we stepped in, we felt like part of the family, which made our visit very pleasant in terms of service. The diner is quite cozy, with a quick service turnaround that is perfect for those on the go.
We sampled a variety of dishes from their menu, hoping to get a true taste of what they offer. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired. Across the board, the dishes lacked seasoning. Even after adding salt, pepper, hot sauce, syrup, and jelly, the flavors just didn't come through. It was clear that the food needed more attention in the kitchen to bring out its potential.
The diner is small, with limited seating both inside and out. There is a charming outdoor set for two where you can sit with your dog, but calling the place dog-friendly might be a stretch. We ended up leaving our dogs in the car, which wasn't ideal but necessary given the setup.
In summary, while Sunshine Diner excels in service and offers a welcoming atmosphere, the food needs significant improvement in seasoning to match the hospitality. If you're in the area and looking for a quick, friendly stop, it might be worth a visit. However, for a memorable culinary experience, you might want to explore...
Read moreThis out-of-towner unexpectedly needed to spend the night on Grand Island and went to Sunshine Cafe for a nice hearty breakfast. I fell in love the second I walked in the door! The breakfast bar was full of regulars (I assume from the way they were all chatting with each other and the staff) so I took a corner booth and was immediately offered coffee by my server, who was incredibly warm and welcoming. I ordered the Sunshine Breakfast, which was delicious. It sounds strange, but it was some of the best toast I’ve ever had!
This cozy little spot is family-owned and obviously a hallmark of their town, with good reason! It felt as if the staff loves the cafe as much as the patrons do, which makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Breakfast came to a little over $10, which is a bargain for how much I enjoyed my meal and my time there. It is cash only, but they have an ATM in case you find yourself with an empty wallet.
If I ever find myself back in the area, I will absolutely be...
