I ordered the curry goat and Somali rice with salad to ease me into the food. I am familiar with Jamaican foods so I thought this would be a good transition into Haitian/ West African food. It took about 10 minutes for them to prepare, but when I received it, it was very fresh tasting and tasted nothing like Jamaican curry. The goat fell off the bone and was seasoned to perfection with unfamiliar but tasty seasonings. The Somali rice was very long grained and was so soft it almost tasted like the texture of rice-oroni. It came with a green hot sauce that I didn’t know was hot. I learned to use a dab to make it palatable for me but if you love hot it’s a great addition to the food. The host was very nice and even allowed me to taste a bit of the things I never even heard of before. He was very informative on all the food and culture, and compared the foods to things I have tasted before to help me get a better idea of what things were like. This was an amazing first experience and I can’t wait to...
Read moreI recently stopped by this restaurant after noticing it while leaving somewhere else. I’ve always wanted to try fufu after seeing it online and wondering what it tastes like luckily, they had it! The man at the front counter was really friendly and suggested which dish to get. He even encouraged another staff member (I think she runs the related hair braiding company)who was also having fufu to sit and eat with me to show me how to enjoy it authentically apparently, you eat it with your hands. He also gave me a free tea which was delicious and water, which was a nice touch. I really enjoyed my first time having fufu and would consider returning in the future. Just a heads-up: the fufu is a bit pricey, starting around $20, and if you want goat meat instead of beef or chicken it’s an extra $4. (the one I had also had shrimp so keep that in mind if you are allergic to shellfish) If you’re looking for atmosphere, it’s pretty bare-bones but if that doesn’t bother you, I’d...
Read moreEvery place I travel to for work I look for Hatian food, and am used to being ever down. I talked to the gentleman at the counter and he was very extremely nice, I was hoping the food would be good so I can come back while I stay in the area a few days. Food is just like when mom makes, had the stew chicken with diri djon driji (black rice and beans) and their fried chicken platter, both perfect, had the house made drinks, soursop was my favorite although the other was great as well. Some places will have you paying a lot for a little food at some places, not here. Have plenty of food for tomorrow but I’m going back anyway to support. Going back. Going back. Going back! If I’m with an hour or so away I’m...
