Submarine House — Restaurant in Clayton

The food is great. The teezers are so delicious especially with their tzacziki sauce that THEY make there. Also the gyros, OH my goodness, make sure you add Fetta though as it really compliments gyros. The whole super duper cheese steak has ALOT of meat. It's not the same if you dont get the works. I'm telling you it's like a good salad with no dressing meaning its still good but the dressing makes it that much better lol you have to at least try it once. Trust me you will come back for more regardless of what you order. It's kind of addicting if you were to ask me. If you are trying to avoid eating bread they also have taco and the BEST chicken quesadillas. I've already had them 2 days in a row they were so good with the relish and Taz on the side for dipping. Even their fountain drinks are better than any others I've had. Oh and the brownies 🤤🤤 Submarine House does more than just satisfy ALL of your taste buds it brings them to life.A scrumptious mouthwatering, and like I said, more than satisfying party in your mouth.

The vibes are so welcoming. The store and the employees make it feel like another home. It's inviting, comfortable , and laid back. It's nice to see employees that actually look like they are happy to be at their job. It definitely adds to the goodness I feel there. I wish I could better explain the vibes or goodness that place is made of.

With the exception of them getting " super duper" 😉 (see what I did there lol), busy that store is always so clean. I dont think ive ever witnessed other places that wash their hands so much. I love the fact that its soo spick and span. The atmosphere takes you back for sure. Back when families sat around the table and had that physical or personal conection. The ers before computers took over. Before years of social distancing which made it a habit and our go to way to communicate. There are no tvs or anything of that nature but there is always good music playing. I think that adds to the goodness of the place. Family, friends etc are left to get to enjoy each others company. Both hands busy with DELICIOUS food 🤤 makes it next to impossible for anyone to be stuck to a phone

All of it together is what makes the Main street Submarine House the best place to eat at. At least in my opinion. A yummy getaway from the everyday hustle and bussle of life these days. Oh and have I mentioned how tasty...

I usually don't have a problem waiting half an hour from the time I've placed an order...if I've been told it'll be that long and on the occasion I have the time to make the wait. When I call and am told "it'll be 10 or 15 minutes", arrive five minutes after the call and while paying am told, "it's on the grill", followed by "five more minutes" and it's then another twenty five minutes, that's unacceptable.

When I saw my order was near completion, I stated my discontent with the stated times being off to which I was told "we can give your money back and you can go to our Salem Ave. store if you like". Seriously. I paid for and took the sandwich since it was done and I was already going to be late.

Don't tell me "there are only two of us here" (there were three behind the counter the entire time I was there), as if that's an excuse for misquoting the time. Be honest on the phone when someone calls and say it'll be half an hour so customers can make an honestly informed decision if they're willing to wait that long.

As I said as I left "with the attitude you've shown, I'll never come back to this location again". Fortunately there are two other locations of Submarine House that are within my travel paths where I've never experienced any customer service issue.

Additionally, the music blaring out of the kitchen was way too loud. I felt bad for the older family eating there while I was waiting. Another lesson learned....don't leave a tip in the jar, as I did, until the food is done. I assumed my food would actually be done in a timely manner...my bad. Time was after 5 pm,...

In my opinion, they used to have the best subs and piazza in the area. Been ordering from the N. Main location for close to 20 years. But the past 6 months or so have been a nightmare. Whatever your told for a delivery time. Double it. When it gets there, verify it. A few month back we waited the customary 1 - 1 1/2 hours for delivery. Called to check and was told it would be there in 15 minutes. It showed up and I signed without checking. The order was totally wrong. Called, waited 10 minutes on hold, but at this point it was getting close to closing. Our charge was credited and we were allowed to keep the food. Far enough. Last night we placed an order at 5:30. Told it would be 1 - 1 1/2. at the 2 hour point I called. Got placed on hold for 15 minutes. When someone finally answered and I asked the status, the guy on the phone paused for about 20 seconds. I said Hello? He said simply "Its on the way". No explanation, no apology. No customer service. The order arrived at 8:00. Cold and soggy, but correct! I totally understand that they get busy. But If its going to take two hours, tell me up front. Give me a realistic time. Just call me if its going to be late. Don't make me call and put me on ignore. And don't deliver me food that was done an hour ago. Your drivers shouldn't have to apologize for ineptitude at the store. I'm done with...
