The Chang Thai Experience ( Dine-In Edition). I had looked for other Thai options near my residence and stumbled upon Chang Thai. The reviews and prices looked enticing, so I was excited to try them out. However, I was somewhat stared at by the seen staff before being asked to sit upon entering the restaurant. After placing my order with the waiter, I went to the restroom to see if I had something out of place that caused the looks, but everything looked ok. The bathroom did appear clean during the visit.
I ordered their crispy spring rolls stuffed with vermicelli noodles and vegetables, then deep-fried with a side of sweet & sour sauce. I also ordered their vegetable Nam Prig Paow made with mixed vegetables seasoned with crushed chili pepper and Nam Prig Paow sauce. Once the food arrived, the Nam Prig Paow was a little sweeter than what I am used to eating when ordering. However, it was good. The spring rolls were good at first bite, but I kept getting a sour cabbage/sauerkraut taste. Although I like cabbage and sauerkraut, that sour flavor was too strong throughout the spring rolls.
So would I go back? The service was ok. It was nothing to write home about, and I somewhat felt out of place soon as I walked in. I have eaten at places where staff make you feel like they know you even though they don't. That is a skill set learned and mastered over time when working with the public and needed in the restaurant industry. The food was ok. The Nam Prig Paow was sweeter than spicy but still good. For me, the spring rolls were not much to desire, but the prices for what you get are phenomenal. So, I am unsure of my return because spring rolls are my favorite thing to order when...

Read moreMy husband and I stopped in to grab lunch here. We love Thai food and have been to Thai restaurants all over the country.
Chang Thai is absolutely disgusting. I ordered Nam Prig Paow, which is a dish I have had many times. The sauce was horrible. It tasted like it was made with dirty dish water. I spit it out. My husband and I ordered some additional fried rice to share and take home. It had tomatoes in it that were rotten. Needless to say, I spit that out as well.
The service was not up to par, especially since we typically get fantastic service at other Thai restaurants in the area. Our glasses were empty from the time our food was brought out until we left.
I have no idea how this particular location has such great reviews . One experience was more than enough for me and I would definitely not eat sushi from here. I can't even imagine how badly that could turn out since they can't even handle a few cooked lunch dishes.
I live within 2 miles of this place and I go into Winston-salem to get Thai food. I will literally drive about 13 miles more to get much better quality food. Please, do yourself a favor, don't waste your time...
