We had seen many people raving about the food from Spoony's, so when my son was in town visiting, I placed an order for some of the dishes that had been recommended over and over again on the "Word of Mouth" Cleveland Facebook page. The Catfish was very good and so was the fried okra, which is my family's favorite vegetable, and one I never prepare at home. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak for my son and the Chicken Philly for my husband. The side of onion rings was a bit small, and not as hot and fresh as other items. We also ordered a half-gallon of the Pineapple Tea, which everyone enjoyed. The food was hot and tasty and packaged well. Both of the guys felt that the texture and of the sandwiches would have been better with lightly toasted bread, but they enjoyed the flavor and serving size. I thought I ordered directly from the restaurant's website, but soon after the order, I received a call from a New York number on my phone with a question about the Onion Ring side- item. I had asked in the order comments if a side was included with the sandwich, and the caller said they had contacted the store and it was not and there would be an additional $2.50 charge for the Onion Rings. This was from Delivery.com, even though I was DRIVING to the location to pick up my order. There was also a service charge for using a credit card. I saw that Grub Hub had a promotion for free delivery and also a partial rebate on first order, but I didn't order through them due to poor reviews, but wish that I had now, since it went through an outside service and not directly to the restaurant. The food was ready when we arrived, and there was no curbside, so we had to go in and get the food. Again, it was very good, but somewhat overpriced, yet the portions were generous except for the...

I’ve heard a lot of hype around town about Spoony’s and so yesterday was my first time in. I love leaving 5-Star reviews but yesterday’s experience wasn’t quite a 5-Star day for me. Walking in, you’re greeted by a dark environment which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just felt a little too dim to my eyes. I think a dark environment is cool when done correctly, but this dark felt more like some of the lights aren’t working.

Moving on to service, we didn’t quite know how to handle ourselves. Do we sit down and someone comes to take our order? Do we goto the counter and place an order? I asked one of the families sitting if they just sat down and waited to order and their answer was yes, so we sat down. After 10-15 minutes I started getting antsy and walked up to the counter to ask if we needed to order there and their reply was, “Yea it’s probably best if you do it like that right now.” I’m glad I did this, because after we ordered it took about 30 minutes to get three entrees of wings and chicken strips.

I ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings, which definitely had a lemon flavor to them but they were much saltier than I was expecting. My friend ordered the Mild Wings and they were much better and actually pretty damn good.

I think it’s worth trying, but make sure when you go in you go straight to the counter to avoid an...

Hidden Gem. My Mom and I were looking for a place to eat that we hadn’t tried. We stumbled across Spoonys. From the moment we parked we felt welcomed. Rodney, aka “Spoony” and also the owner, greeted us as we stepped out of our vehicle and welcomed us in with a smile, like we were old friends. The menu had a large variety and was exactly what we were looking for. I have a natural tendency to judge a place by their chicken fingers, lol. Spoonys did not disappoint! Everything was fresh, yummy and made with care. We had the lava cake for dessert and delicious does not even cover how good it was. They also offer other enticing deserts that we will definitely be going back to try. Spoony also told us that they have live music often and a buffet style meal on the first Sunday of every month. If you’re in Cleveland, looking for a yummy bite, and a super friendly atmosphere this is your place. It won’t disappoint!

I was in town for a project and Spoonys was recommended to me. I'm so glad I came on a day they were open. I was told to get the catfish platter, so I did and rounded it off with onion rings and cole slaw. The cornmeal crust on the catfish was crispy and seasoned just right. The fish was tender and one of the best catfish I ever had. The onion rings were battered and stayed crunchy. The hush puppies were a nice accompaniment. I enjoyed the iced tea sweetened with the pineapple juice. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. Just make sure they are open the day you're wanting to give them a try. If I get a chance to come back to Cleveland, Spoonys will be on my list of stops.
