This is a new review for the new location. I’m sad! That’s right! I am sad…. I’ve been to the new location a couple times, but only for happy hour. Today, November 6th 2024, we stopped in for the first time to eat dinner. I am sooo sad this is my first time for dinner!! Food was amazing!!! Service was awesome too! I got the Wagyu tenderloin with the smashed potatoes and green beans! The wife got the grilled chicken with lemon butter caper sauce! Her sides were the asparagus and couscous for her sides. Daughter got the spaghetti and meatballs on the kids menu. All the food was amazing! So good in fact, all three of us are SO SAD we haven’t ate here yet!! Shame on us!!! We live close and will definitely be back regularly!
I’ve been meaning to write a review for some time now so here it goes. My favorites at Olaf’s are abundant! For starters, anytime they have the frenched rack of lamb in the kitchen it’s a no brainer! Simple the best lamb recipe ever and cooked to perfection! Even if you don’t like lamb.. or think you don’t like lamb, it’s a must try!
Appetizer, try the prosciutto wrapped asparagus! All the flat breads are great too.. the bbq chicken flatbread is my favorite but I enjoy them all.
My wife’s favorite at Olaf’s is the pan seared Norwegian salmon! She gets its pretty much every time we go! If you are in the mood for fish, I will agree, it’s a fine choice! The salmon is always perfectly cooked (which when it come to fish is so important) and sits on top of hatch chili grits! Super tasty!!
Olaf’s is also a great place for adult beverages.. good wine list.. bartender knows how to mix up anything you typically enjoy! Atmosphere is always important and this place definitely sets the mood for a nice evening out! However, I’ve been known to show up by myself fairly casual and no one judges you but greets you with a smile! Great outside courtyard area where you can enjoy live music a lot of times.
Check them out.. the best evening out in Clifton hands down.. and if you want to get away from the blah while in Waco, it’s a beautiful drive and you will...
Read moreIf there were more than 5 stars, Olaf’s would have them all! My husband & I (who live in Dallas) were at a meeting in Waco but spent the night in Clifton. It was our 1st time there so we asked for restaurant recommendations. Our Waco friends enthusiastically replied “Olaf’s!” Everything about the entire experience was perfect!—beginning with our arrival at the beautiful retail establishment in front of the restaurant. (Mostly antiques but I purchased a beautiful cashmere scarf at a very reasonable price.). We didn’t have a reservation & Olaf’s was full but Stephanie, our spectacular server, magically found a charming small table. Fresh roses were on each table as well as in the lovely “powder rooms”. (I rarely include them in reviews but they deserve it!). Stephanie, who was attentive but not intrusive, made marvelous recommendations so we shared a delicious olive tapenade flatbread appetizer, a romaine wedge with the best fresh bleu cheese (a treat after usually having iceberg wedges), & 1 of the best filets we’ve ever eaten anywhere. We had planned on dessert but the generous portions left us without room. We will indulge next time! Two other unexpected treats were meeting Olaf, who stopped by our table & knew we were 1st time guests, & lovely live music. Olaf is a gracious & interesting proprietor, & the music was perfect—soft enough to converse with your companion. I realize this review is far too long but I could continue at greater length with accolades about this special restaurant. Make a reservation & go! You will not be...
Read moreI was told they had good steaks, so I tried it. Tried ordering a ribeye and was told they didn't have ribeyes, and all they had was sirloin and strip. I asked how they were and if they had a decent amount of fat in them 5 times. I asked if they were wagyu and was told they were but then told the ribeye cap has the best marbling, I said I'm confused, you just said you don't have ribeye. She then proceeds to look her tablet and says they don't. Then I asked again about the fat, and she says she is going to go look, she comes back and said the sirloin didn't have any fat and the strip had a little. All wagyu has a good amount of fat, and the strip is an excellent cut, so it was clear that it wasn't wagyu. I just scraped getting a steak and went with the chicken fettuccine, it was okay at best. They are only opened 4 days a week, and they advertise that they are by 3R Farms, so I asked if they were and farm table restaurant and was told they weren't. I got the impression that the staff doesn't know much about anything. There's no excuse or reason that any restaurant has today to be out of Ribeyes and Filets, especially one that is only opened 4 days a week. Imagine any actual professional reviewer showing up and experiencing this. I really wanted this experience to be good. I should have just paid for my drink and left when I was told the only steaks they have are...
