El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Clinton

If there was a way to give 0 stars that's what they would get.

Let me start this with if the restaurant claims to serve AUTHENTIC Mexican Cuisine that is what I expect!

I DO NOT expect them to take advantage of people in the MidWest who may or may not know what Authentic Mexican Cuisine is.

I took my wife out for her 30th Birthday and we started with Queso Fondido with Chorizo and an order of Guacamole. We were given the Queso Fondido with Chorizo (its pretty hard to mess that up, 2 ingredients melted cheese and chorizo). We then were handed a bowl of mashed avocados.

We politely asked for some lines or lime juice, diced tomatoes, diced onions, chopped cilantro and diced jalapenos; you know EVERYTHING that should be in guacamole.

I also ordered my wife a TOP Shelf Strawberry Margarita with 1800 Tequila and a sugared rim. We received a pre made WELL Strawberry Margarita with a sugared rum and a shot of 1800.

We politely asked for it to be remade because NOBODY in their right mind mixes well liquor with premium liquor especially not in the same glass.

We were then handed the "premium " margarita and after 2 test sips my wife asked me to try it. I took a small sip and immediately could tell that they just dumped the 1800 in the well margarita and called it a day.

We finished our meal and asked for the manager, the gentlemen stated he was the manager. We explained what happened he informed us since we took 3 sips the drink could not be taken off the bill.

He then stated with a pompous attitude that everyone else likes the margaritas and the food. I kindly explained it was because they didn't know what Authentic Mexican Cuisine was.

We paid left zero tip and left.

Do yourself a favor and dont waste your time...

Not sure what happened but their food has no flavor anymore (and no I don't have covid lol) tacos are all soggy and fell apart when I picked them up. Husbands taquitos are soggy instead of crispy. Just no.. ill order plates from ppl on the street and get the flavor and authenticity I want UPDATE: Tried again today 2yrs later and tried the steak tacos. The steak isn't seasoned at all and the shells were thrown flat in the bottom of a container and all the toppings just thrown on top. Literally can't tell there's shells in there without digging through the whole thing. Husband got a burrito, chalupa, and enchilada which were all thrown together in a container all covered in red sauce with the toppings on top that I ordered to be inside and NO SEASONING. It was a soggy mess and all 3 things were Literally stuck together. We tried, twice, and won't be back unfortunately. PLEASE FIND FLAVOR and stop being afraid of using seasonings. There's not a single good Mexican restaurant in Clinton...

So me and my mother decided to eat lunch here and we got some margaritas and such. And when we were driving I saw that I had left my wallet there. So we called literally 5min after about my wallet and they straight tell me no we haven’t seen it. So I drive all the way back and walk in there to check myself and nothing. I asked my server etc etc and straight up lied to my face. I immediately blocked all cards etc. and later that night I get a notification that someone tried to charge 500 on my credit card to some international money transfer company or whatever. This company is called remitly. They require name ssn etc to make an account because they need to verify u. So not only was ssc in my wallet but my ID everything. Come to find out one of ur employees sole my identity and tried to send my money under my name. I alrdy have a police report filed and I will be seeing these folks in court very soon! Ooo and they tried dollar...
