Lobster Landing – Clinton, CT – A Hidden Gem That Took My Taste Buds by Storm
I’ve lived in Clinton, Connecticut for six months and just found out about this waterfront wonder twenty minutes before they closed. That alone deserves a “shame on me.” But better late than never, because what I experienced at Lobster Landing was nothing short of culinary magic.
Let’s start with the sausage with sauerkraut and peppers. First off, this wasn’t just a sausage—it was a giant, juicy, flavor-packed beast that practically defied physics trying to sit in that bun. The skin snapped with every bite, releasing a savory pop of perfectly spiced meat and grilled goodness. The kraut and peppers added that ideal tang and sweet heat contrast. It was so good I had to pause mid-bite and just nod in gratitude to the culinary gods.
Next up was the hotdog. When we first opened the container, we thought the hotdog was the sausage—it was that big. I’m talking ballpark champion kind of size. Ketchup, mustard, the works—it had all the classic fixings done just right, nothing sloppy or overdone. Just a clean, bold, satisfying bite that reminds you why simple things done well are sometimes the best.
Now let me talk about the lobster bisque—even though seafood and I usually keep a respectful distance (I’m a fried shrimp type of guy, and that’s about where I draw the line). But this… this was different. My girlfriend ordered it. I tasted it. And the next thing I knew, I wanted to drink the whole thing like it was a warm mug of coffee on a winter morning. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced with real lobster chunks swimming in every spoonful. I didn’t even care if she got mad—I was seriously considering stealing the rest of hers.
Oh, and we also had some type of corn in a cup—the name escapes me now, but the flavor didn’t. Creamy, savory, sweet—it was like street corn reimagined in the best way. A delicious surprise that rounded out the meal.
The staff were friendly and warm, the kind of folks that make you feel welcome even if you’re walking in right before closing. The location—right by the water—adds that special charm you don’t get from a strip mall or chain. It’s scenic, peaceful, and the smell of the sea pairs beautifully with the food.
No photos this time. That’s how good the food was—I forgot. But trust me: if you’re anywhere near Clinton, you owe it to yourself to check out Lobster Landing. Don’t walk—run. Go earlier than I did so you can double your order of that bisque.
Final Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Absolutely, positively, unequivocally not...
Read moreThis is a 1-star review for Lobster Landing in Clinton, CT.
My spouse and I went there on a Sunday afternoon at the end of July 2024, but honestly, we wasted $60 for nothing.
We should have read all the 1-star reviews – they are all correct.
And now they’re even an understatement, since the price of a lobster roll has gone up to $28.50 while the bad quality hasn’t changed – the same subpar lobster meat and the same soggy bread.
But there are other problems, and I’ll summarize them as constructive criticism, if the owner/s want to improve their service.
First, there is no parking on site. Instead, there’s only a municipal parking lot that’s 5 blocks away, and you must walk to and from on a narrow street without sidewalk, sharing it with the cars. So, if you have little kids and/or elderly people with you, plan accordingly.
Second, there is no restroom – so, once again, consider what you’re going to do with little kids and/or elderly people.
Third, the structure is all dirty and run-down – the few tables available are all dirty, and you’re supposed to share them with strangers. Also, there is no table service, but they still ask for tips.
Fourth, during the weekend there is a line of people – who clearly haven’t read the 1-star reviews – and the waiting time can be 45 min or more, standing in line all the time.
Fifth, there is no privacy – this was probably the worst aspect for the price. Standing in line and sharing tables with strangers, you’ll find out that people in the area have a lot of challenges, and having to listen to their problems and their nonsense is very pathetic.
Sixth, don’t dress up for this place – people in the area don’t know that high heels were invented in Europe a long time ago.
Seventh, whenever there’s no privacy, there can be bad situations.
I actually felt threatened when a remarkably ugly guy, out of the blue, claimed that he knew me. Yeah, he wishes! Was he drunk, deranged or both? Thank God, I’ve never seen him, and never will. Better safe than sorry, I caught him on camera, just in case.
Bottom line, for $60, I’d like to have privacy, parking, the chance to sit at a clean and private table, and decent food instead of subpar meat.
Next time we want a good lobster roll, we’ll buy Maine lobster online or at the store, and cook it at home with salted butter and lemon, served with some crispy...
Read moreAfter a day at the Clinton Shopping Outlets (about 5 minutes away) we wanted to have a quick meal before hitting the road. We happened upon this lovely, outdoor, fast/casual restaurant right on the water. Make sure you go on a nice day because there is limited covered seating.
There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant so we found parking easily, however, as it got closer to the dinner rush we could see that the lot was filling up. You approach two structures, one of which is their fresh fish market and one is their actual restaurant.
We wanted to sample a lot of the menu so my husband and I ordered pretty much everything except the salad.
The lobster roll: delicious and fresh lobster meat prepared with butter (not mayo) which we loved. The portion was quite good for the $20 price point it was reasonable. The bread could have afforded to be toasted a touch more as the butter made the bread soft and almost soggy pretty quickly. This may have been caused by the delay of our order held up by the sausage sandwich order we placed which the restaurant staff said takes time. I have a feeling the lobster was sitting while the sausage was being cooked which might not have happened otherwise.
The sausage sandwich: sausage was quite good but the peppers on top needed seasoning. It was probably only prepared with a bit of oil and tiny bit of salt. The mustard sauce they put on tasted good but it was a thinner sauce and it probably needed more of the sauce due to the thinness of the sauce. They provided a mustard packet which we used and helped with the overall flavor.
Clam chowder: Yum! Star of the show! I'd come back just for this! I really enjoyed the creaminess, the perfect potato portion, and the clam bits and flavor that was packed into this bowl. I was pleasantly surprised and appreciated the portion size because when I order clam chowder I'm often disappointed by the price point vs the portion size offered.
Cole slaw: We did not like this at all. It was a vinegar based slaw but it completely lacked flavor. Would not recommend this and would not order this again.
The hot dog: decent sized hot dog and bun. It was not the small cheapy hot dog that I expected. They provided packets of ketchup, mustard, and relish in the bag as well.
Overall, loved the lobster roll and clam chowder, would definitely come back for these...
