Good food served by fast friendly servers at reasonable prices.

Saturday dinner meal, nine people in our family party.

For appetizers we ordered two full Pulled Pork Nachos. Most of the group really enjoyed the nachos; however, I felt the flavors were somewhat muted. The beer cheese doesn’t taste like beer cheese, instead it had more of an American cheese taste in my opinion. The chips in the nacho are good, best approximation of taste and texture would be a very lightly salted “Potato Skins” (the brand of chip) chip. The amount of nachos, particularly the amount of toppings, makes this appetizer a great purchase.

For entrees we got eight burgers and a half rack of ribs. The ribs were terrific, great amount of meat and amazing taste and texture. The burgers are very large, not a chance of leaving hungry. A few, to include me, got Rodeo Burger; it is very filling; it is heaped with great flavor profiles. Unfortunately it all sort of becomes a singular meat flavor, not undesirable in the least… just a heads up. My wife got the Bacon Blue BBQ burger, Shawnee Mound hit a home run with this one; they use high quality bleu cheese and bacon; the flavors make sure you know it. Finally, the fries that come with the burgers… the fries are seriously great. There’s just something about them that gets you reaching for one more and one more…

Lastly we ordered the horseradish coleslaw out of plain curiosity having never seen such a thing and it is delicious. Of course a prerequisite to finding it delicious is really liking the taste of fresh ground horseradish. I suspect the horseradish is from a local producer having bought some from the local store. If you like fresh ground horseradish, I am not talking about the mayonnaise like mass produced store brand so-called horseradish, pick some up for four bucks and a lot up for ten bucks.

All told we got nine entrees, two full sized appetizers, three small sides, one large side (needed to grab a large container of that coleslaw for later, it’s that good), and two sodas. The bill was only around 205 (about 23 a person), really a decent price for so much food for our large group.

Final note and it is an important one - unlike nearly every other restaurant, Shawnee Mound BBQ does not automatically add such and such percent gratuity for large parties (I asked our server, she said they never add a gratuity), so please don’t forget to tip when you visit as you feel is appropriate. I asked if there was a gratuity added before paying, and then ensured the server’s tremendous service was compensated with a proper tip (above 20% since she had a massive table sprung upon her and she kept...

Finally had a chance to try Shawnee Mound after months of trying to catch them open. Called in our order for take out and the woman taking the order was unfriendly and borderline rude. After being told you can't get burnt ends on the Sampler Platter (their menu does say ANY available smoked meat...) we settled on ribs and a double portion of brisket. We also got a rack of ribs. Sides were beans, Coleslaw, and potato salad. For the sampler platter, the "double portion" was literally 3 slices of brisket. Good flavor and tender but still, 3 pieces for a double order? Also came with 3 ribs (not very tender). The rack of ribs was far better, good flavor and very tender. The sides were TINY.... like really really tiny. The baked beans were "good". Nothing spectacular but good. The coleslaw was dry, very little sauce to it. And the potato salad... pick some up from Walmart or Price cutter, it will taste the same. Not the worst place we've eaten, however between the mediocre food and the less than pleasant service, it was a one time visit for all of us. Very disappointed, we were hoping to really...

So glad we stumbled upon this tiny off the beaten path BBQ joint. Their brisket and pork are unreal! Their sides are amazing too. In fact, so amazing that you need to get there late afternoon/early evening because there's a good chance they'll run out of things. Same goes for their burnt ends. While waiting for my order a man walked in to order the burnt ends and they had run out for the day. I guess that's their specialty. We'll have to try those next time. The waitresses are also the friendliest I've ever had! They make you feel so welcome. They're also quite proud of their eclectic variety of beers! The one thing I wasn't a fan of was the sauce because it was on the sweet side which isn't my thing, but the rest of my...

I ate at Shawnee Mound BBQ on July 26th, 2017 with a couple of friends, this was a new place, within the last 12 mos. We showed up late and missed the lunch crowd, but we couldn't get everything we wanted, because they were out. I enjoyed their Kitchen Sink, (sloppy joe) type BBQ sandwich and my friends had ham and sausage. Everything was good, I really liked their horseradish coleslaw. The fries and beans were OK. I'd like to see them expand their menu, burnt ends were only available Fri - Sun. They sold individual drinks. BBQ should have a soda fountain. I didn't see cheesey corn, nor corn nuggets, nor fried pickles no mushrooms, but they're new and I expect they'll offer more as time goes on.

Me and a friend are driving to the CWS in Omaha and came upon this gem of a BBQ on our way. Was thinking about waiting till we got to KC to eat but so glad we stopped at Shawnee’s BBQ! Don’t let the exterior slow you down because their food was outstanding. Must admit I was a little disappointed when they just sold out of the last order of burnt ends. Oh well, guess I’ll just try their meat sampler platter. Ribs, brisket, ham and a phenomenal hot sausage link. Yes please! Couple those with crispy tots, solid coleslaw and very thick and flavorful baked beans. Highly recommend this gem. Bonus points for making everything from scratch with a special shout out to the hot links! I’m full and happy.
