On a weekend getaway in Connecticut. My fiance loves the beach and our lodging being so close this is a perfect area for us. My only wish was to get myself a seafood stream pot, broil, bake, etc. After some Googling and Yelping we landed on this place. Really glad we took the chance cuz we weren't disappointed. They have outdoor dining and the tables were spaced apart. The staff were all wearing face coverings. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser at the entrance/exit of the outdoor seating just to get all of that out of the way. We were greeted and seated right away. We put in our drink orders, she got the summer-y drink and I got the spicy jalapeno drink. We also went ahead and ordered the brussel sprouts which we must say were the greatest. Brussel sprouts. EVER! I know, it's crazy but the sauce and the parmesan cheese. You gotta try them! Anyway, for our entrees I ordered the New England lobster bake. She got the taco salad of some sort. Both meals were large portions! She enjoyed her salad very much. I really enjoyed my bake. I'm not a huge fan of lobster but when you're in a seafood state, you kinda have to get the seafood. I really enjoyed my lobster, the only downside to it is that I'm used to having a spicy seasoning on my crabs, crawfish, lobster, etc. But I think that's just my personal preference. The sweet corn that came with it was really sweet and didn't need anything extra like I usually put on my corn such as salt, butter, and black pepper. The clams and sausage were also good. The sausage was actually spicier than I expected but like I said I like spicy so for me it was perfect. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience even with the occasional downpour that happened on...
Read moreI’ve wanted to stop here for 40 years and finally did so. The fried mozzarella was delicious and the marinara sauce was amazing. I was surprised they only use it for the mozz sticks. I got steamers. They smelled really odd. I at e some of them but kept sniffing each one. Hubby pointed out there were some with broken shells so they were dead when cooked. We told the waitress. She gladly took them back. Husband ordered the beef filet cooked to perfection with a great horseradish cream sauce. Btw the warm rolls were great with tons of whipped butter. But my lobster was so overcooked to the pale whitish pink stage. The feelers just snapped in half it was so dry and overcooked. There was not enough stuffing either nor was there enough seafood in it for a 40$ lobster. It was so unappealing and it too had the same odd smell like the steamers but not as strong. I ate one half tail and decided to wrap it up and take it home. I didn’t feel like complaining anymore. The roasted finger ling potatoes were dark and burned. The server was nice and gave us great service. With a name like Westbrook Lobster the lobster should have been cooked and served to perfection. Instead it was the steak, rolls and marinara sauce and the mozz sticks that were phenomenal. 40$ Lobster…Overcooked, not enough stuffing which was soggy with not enough seafood and bad broken shell steamers that were stinky and definitely should not have been served. Maybe it was an off day but we will not be returning. Too expensive for lousy seafood. Maybe it was an off day but we won’t...
Read moreWhen I was a little kid, I remember going to the old Westbrook Lobster when it was a fish market by the singing bridge. It was in a rickety old building that shook in the wind. There were old lobster claws on the wall that were as big as a catcher's mitt. I used to love peeking into the lobster tanks, always hoping to see a giant lobster like that.
Well, that was like fifty years ago and its not like that anymore. These days Westbrook Lobster is a casual shoreline seafood restaurant. Their lobster rolls have always been the standard against which I judge other lobster rolls anywhere I go in New England. These are usually the best.
I love that they offer Rhode Island clam chowder, which is a clear broth that offers the most clean clam flavor in my opinion. They have the creamy New England style too if you must have that, but as a shoreline native, I have to recommend you try the Rhode Island style.
My partner loves the lobster grilled cheese sandwich. I find it too rich, but she gets it every time.
Stick to the basics. Lobster rolls, clam chowder, lobster bisque, clam strips. That kind of traditional shoreline seafood is what...
