I had higher hopes for Locale based on the extremely high prices for the food and drinks, which are as high as Manhattan, but was let down at every opportunity by the place for the following reasons and would 100% not recommend. It’s been a long time since I’ve went out and felt completely fleeced. This place is a rip off factory that you’d only find in the most touristy places on vacation, but lucky for them they found a way to setup a chop shop in Closter.
Manners of the staff: the staff argues with their customers over the order and who placed the wrong order. I am not going out to dinner to argue over this with the staff and should be treated with more respect when I am paying premium prices for their food and service. Who goes out to eat and spend all sorts of money to be told you and your guests are liars? On top of that the staff up the ante on bad service by their complete lack of understand of the wine list and food and was extremely pushy in selling certain items on their list.
The wine list was not good and over priced they’re charging an extra 10-15 dollars for each bottle.
They’re charging 15 - 16 dollars for cocktails that are subpar and they charge 10 dollars for a pint of Guinness which is beyond outrageous.
Out of all the dishes we ate only the shrimp and Avocado stood out. The 38 dollar Halibut was barely edible and the pasta was greasy with too much pancetta added to the dish, which they charge 24 dollars for.
The service was slow and took an hour for the first round of dishes to come out.
The place looks run down. I don’t understand how you’re charging so much to eat there but it looks so bad with no investment inside the restaurant. Seriously it’s a dump and it’s sad because they have such a beautiful location and the shell of a...
Read moreGreetings, I am a foodie and a food blogger. I am writing this to you because I heard so many wonderful things but those were, to be honest all lies. We arrived and it took the waiter literally 15 minutes to bring a coke to the table. My glasses were empty for the better part of our meal and as excited as I was for this homemade pappardelle it was delicious it would have been better if my plate was clean. Presentation was horrible. The pappardelle with duck ragout looked like crusty motor oil . The kid ordered a Parmesan crusted chicken and received chicken picatta. I don't normally complain if the service was awesome but the service didn't even reach sub-par. For my first time there i was sorely disappointed on so many levels. Yes I saw you had a huge dinner party unfortunately for you its not my problem. I think you should have prepared for this party ad well as your regular patrons. We as patrons were pretty much left out in the wind to fend for ourselves. We were intent on trying your creme Brulee but realized by the time we got it we would be 60 years old by then. Then the waiter disappeared for god knows how long and when I spoke to the lady up front turns out the guy just had my card lying next to the machine without it being charged. Whether you take this seriously or with a grain of salt this wass a big problem. I am a huge fan of fresh homemade pasta. It was good but I will not be visiting your restaurant ever again. I hope you prepare for any parties you have after this one this evening . I would hate to have someone else have such a horrible experience as we did. Good...
Read moreMy experience here was exceptional as the food was not bad, and the service was good. The restaurant was not really open to the public as the staff were testing some brunch options which looked interesting. It was nice of them to seat us down as the staff was very welcoming. We started with the fried calamari which hit the spot. It came with two different sauces (marinara and tartar) which was quite delicious. The calamari was crispy and both sauces complimented it very well; I will also add that the portion size was definitely hearty. For my main course, I had the home made spaghetti pesto which came with a ball of burrata on it. This was a simple dish, but the burrata was a nice touch as it blended well with the pasta. I was just not a big fan of the pesto sauce; it seemed kinda thin and bland to me. It was not bad, just did not have enough of a cheesy garlicky essence to it. I have had a lot of pesto sauce, so I may be a bit picky but that was just my experience. Regardless of that, the burrata cheese did add some flavor to the sauce. If I were to go back, I would definitely try one of their seafood dishes. When we ordered drinks, I noticed they brought a small soda bottle out to me which means no free refills. I really highly recommend all restaurants offer this because it affects the experience. I was rationing my soda throughout because I did not want to be charged for another; also fountain soda just tastes better in my opinion, but not a deal breaker. Overall, the food was not bad and we appreciated the friendliness...
