My Happy Cafe — Restaurant in Coal City

They advertise that they take orders up to 3 p.m. closing. My father and I went in at 2:30 and the greeter was less than happy to see us. Must have had a bad day. The waitress was friendly and gave us good service, but didn’t get my drink before the meal came. Right after our food arrived the greeter and waitress sat right across from us talking about how tired they were and couldn’t wait to go home. As we are eating someone came out with the mop bucket and some mighty smelly cleaner and helped hurry us along. Got the bill which seemed pretty high, well they added on an extra meal. Said they gave us the wrong ticket, but we were the only ones there and our two meals were on it. I use to go in for breakfast once a month or so, but probably won’t be going back. This place came highly recommended. They were busy which was to be expected, wait wasn't too long. Bathrooms are clean. Waitress was nice. They are a bit pricey in my opinion. I got the vegetarian omelet with hash browns and white toast. Omelet lacked flavor needed hot sauce and ketchup. Hash browns lacked flavor as well needed salt, pepper, hot sauce and ketchup. My daughter got the Nutella crepe which she said was very good. Reason for the 3 star is they charge a service fee as well as a fee for using credit card. As a business owner myself I feel it's bad business to pass along your processing fees to the customer, just my thought on that. Would i come back or recommend, sadly no. Excellent burgers. This was our first time stopping in My Happy Cafe. Lately it's really hard to find a good burger anywhere. We are always very skeptical when we go somewhere to eat now. But if you are looking for a really good burger and soup this is the place. The sad thing is that Illinois' jackass governor shut them down for inside dining. This Covid-19 thing is getting out of hand. How does the governor expect these small business owners to survive. I'm sure if these small businesses stopped paying their taxes the governor would shut them down. I would like to hope that the community is supportive to all the small businesses in the area.
