Perfection!! If I could sum up my experience here on April 6, it would absolutely be perfection!! Let me first say I am a meat and potatoes kind of gal. My pallet is very pedestrian. So when my friend suggested dining here I was a bit apprehensive. I don’t like seafood. No way would I even think about trying seafood or frog legs so what would this place have to offer me. Even more so, we were going on a Sunday, where it’s a prefixed menu in which you don’t know the menu until the morning of. What was I thinking agreeing to this?? The room was beautiful when you walk in. Bright, elegant, and sophisticated. We were greeted immediately and shown our table. The menu put me at ease as I saw 2 things I definitely like. Our waitress Nalini was warm, funny and attentive. Lucas also helped with the service and very attentive as well. Nalini described everything on the menu as if it was a work of art- little did I know each course WAS a work of art! Our starter was butternut squash soup with a toasted meringue- this may have been the best soup I’ve ever had!! I literally was thinking of it the entire next day. It was the perfect amount- after all I still had 3 more courses. The gnocchi was in a lobster sauce- you read the part where I said I don’t like seafood. I told Nalini if it wouldn’t be too much to ask to just not put the sauce on it, I would appreciate it. She told the chef who asked if I’d like a truffle butter sauce instead. Looking at my friend for guidance, I agreed. Let me just say it was absolute delectable!! I think I could eat that everyday! During our service Nalini was always close by, but never hovering which was nice. Our next course was a short rib shepherd’s pie that melted in your mouth and definitely left me wanting more! Lastly our dessert was Paris de Brest chocolate mousse. I’ll be honest, I don’t quite know what the pastry was- seemed buttery, but it accompanied the mousse beautifully. This was a 4 course tasting menu. I went into thinking I’ll probably have to stop somewhere on the way home because I’ll still be hungry. That was not the case. I left there pleasantly full and my friends all saying we are coming back SOON! I appreciated that the service was light, engaging, knowledgeable and we never ever felt rushed. In fact we were there for 3 hours and purely enjoyed the dinner from beginning to end. I loved the fact that the chef was able to offer a sub for the lobster sauce creating a gnocchi I won’t soon forget!! Everything was so delicate and light that it really was the complete opposite of what I thought our night was going to consist of. This dinner wasn’t any special occasion just 4 friends meeting up, but it certainly did turn into a special dinner. If you are looking to some place to dine that might be a little out of your comfort zone, or if you are looking for just a great meal with great service in which you can tell the chef puts great love and pride into each dish, I highly recommend June BYOB. You will wonder why you never...
Read moreThe only word is magical! Arriving at June last chilly evening, we were immediately warmed by the cheerful, glowing, faces of the servers, which mirrored the fire aglow in the hearth. My son wanted to experience French food to celebrate his birthday, an an experience it was! The amuse bouche (complimentary first course) was a sunchoke and truffle soup, which did its job of tantalizing our taste buds and getting us excited for what was to come. We decided to go all in, ordering one of each appetizer to share and each dish was better than the next. Everyone grew quiet as we passed the dishes around the table family style, in awe of the stunning presentation and layers of flavors in the masterfully prepared food. My younger son is not a very adventurous eater, but even he dove right in to the Chef's signature escargot in beef bordelaise and the refreshing blood orange Scallop Ceviche, proving that French food is for everyone! The Parisian Gnocchi with braised short rib was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, the elevated French Onion Soup was to die for, topped with crostini and brûléed Comte cheese, and the piece de resistance was the Chef's special Golden Tilefish which was a work of art both visually and in flavor and came with a heartwarming story honoring the Chef's hardworking mason father with "hands of gold". For entrees, again we shared as we all wanted to try everything and found it impossible to decide! The Lapin au vin; red wine braised rabbit leg over house made pappardelle pasta, was fork tender and beyond delicious. The Boeuf; braised shortrib, was topped with melted bone marrow and served over velvety pomme puree and gorgeous, flavorful, locally sourced root vegetables. We also ordered the Canard a la Presse, (*note this must be reserved in advance) a whole duck prepared tableside before our eyes! It made for dinner and a show all in one and absolutely blew our minds! Desserts are all prepared in house and were a perfect sweet ending to our phenomenal meal. We all had different favorites, but the crème brûlée (my favorite), apple cheesecake, chocolate caramel tart were all big hits. If you have trepidations about venturing into the world of French food, don't. At June it is so approachable, and this was without exception the best meal we have ever had! The warm, friendly service and elevated home-like setting added to the experience immensely. Thank you June for an all around...
Read moreWe frequented the restaurant in its south Philly location and it has much more room to breathe here in Collingswood.
We tried almost everything on the menu and I’m giving it four stars because we were only disappointed in one dish—the poisson. It was a dorade over a tomato sauce which was bland and very watery. Everything else was excellent.
The service, of course, was great. They are still doing tableside preps and performances. We saw a duck breast filleted and prepared tableside. Of course also a flambé. If you have someone who enjoys that, you may need to order it in advance, so pay attention.
We got the ravioli, escargot, frog legs, cold carrot and harissa soup for appetizers. We knew the ravioli would be a hit. The escargot were a surprising miss with the table but I very much enjoyed them. The flavor reminded me of a bit of soy glaze with a Siam basil. The ravioli had peas and when you cook with fresh ingredients and make your pasta fresh, how can you disappoint in a crème sauce. You cannot! The frog legs had a delicious bean preparation underneath them. The beans were these huge white beans and there was a bit of vinegar flavor to the prep. Yum. The carrot soup had great spice to it (the harissa, with a touch of ginger) and a tartness from a lemon aoili.
For our mains, we had the lapin (rabbit) which fell off the bone, the veal, the poisson, and the beef Wellington. The pastry on the beef Wellington was also notable and flaky.
For dessert, a crème brûlée, chocolate mousse cake, a mango tart which was delightfully tart and beautiful, and floating island. The floating island was my surprise while the mango tart was my favorite.
I don’t have much reason to leave my neighborhood except to see family and we’ll definitely try to make it back to this cute village and make June a...
