Oba Mediterranean Grill is one of the newest restaurant in Collingswood, NJ. I had been there with my friend twice and I just didn’t want to give this beautiful restaurant 3 stars after my first visit. The main problem for us was the poor service in our first time there. Two waiters were just not attentive and didn’t take care of their guests properly which was not fair. Basically the busgirl who was really nice person did their job. So we wanted to go there one more time because of the incredible food and that time our server Ekrem made our dinner more enjoyable. He was very polite and attentive. So the second time in there was much much better than the first time because of the good service.
Oba Mediterranean Grill serves very high quality food which is not very easy to find in any kind of restaurants. My friend and I shared a lot of dishes and none of them disappointed us. We tried appetizer combination which comes with 7 different cold appetizers, lebni (haydari), icli kofte, feta cheese pide, spinach pide, fried liver, lamb adana platter, chicken sautee, homemade gyro platter and rice pudding in our two visit. Everything was incredibly delicious and very fresh. The food deserves more than 5 stars.
The restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere of the restaurant was just beautiful. They have outdoor seating too. It’s BYOB also. Their prices were moderate and surprisingly they put gratuities on the check even you are 2 people. I hope they get better with the service soon because this restaurant...
Read moreI struggled here to figure out my star rating. I leaned toward the higher of my 2 choices.
Food: First off, there was a rancid fish smell when we sat down. We almost walked out. I've been to several Turkish restaurants. Unfortunately, Oba left a lot to be desired. The bread/pita was great. Olives and olive oil were yum. I got the Mediterranean salad and chicken shish and my partner got the lamb shish. The salad was simply field greens with some feta for $14. Chicken shish was ok. Again plate was half full of field greens. Rice was mushy. Overcooked. No sauce for anything. I just ate at Black Olive last Friday and it was the attention to detail that set them apart from Oba.
Service: IT seems as if the owner may be the server? I was halfway through my meal when I got my ice tea. I was never asked if my meal was ok. As soon as I put my fork down to be finished my plate and silverware were removed. It was less than an hour from when we sat to when we left. That to me isn't what I'm going for when I go out to dinner.
The restaurant itself is nice. Close tables. Bright lights. But clean.
Unfortunately we will not be back. 80 bucks and a 25 min drice and we left Wishing we just got take out and stayed in.
I would suggest they pay more attention to the details of the plates and service. Add a sauce. Keep fresher...
Read moreThis is New Turkish restaurant in South Jersey. I'm leaving this review for everyone who wants to enjoy really good Turkish Food. Also for my friends who always ask me for good Turkish food. We went to Oba on a Saturday Night without a reservation. We were 9 hungry people. It was also my Son's birthday celebration. We had to wait because they were no tables. We did wait a long time and I was kinda mad. However the owner and the staff was very polite and helpful. They really earned my respect. Well the food was beyond my expectation and soon I forgot about the wait. I had the mix platter it had little bit of every meat and all of them were delicious. Well seasoned, well cooked. The salads were excellent both the shepherd's salad and the green salad that came with my platter. Their portions are huge and the service was very fast. I don't remember our waiters name but tall dark hair guy, he was very funny and really good. Everything is in 15 minutes ( Hersey 15 dakikada) that was our slogan for the night because every time we asked it was 15 minutes for the table :) it was kinda funny. I thank the owner Seyhan bey and his staff for the delicious food and singing happy birthday to my son. I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes Turkish/ Mediterranean food! ...
