As with all restaurants, consistency is the key. My husband and I ordered takeout on Wednesday, Jan 5th. Unfortunately for the restaurant, they were almost empty. Fortunate for us though. I ordered the Orange Shrimp and my husband ordered the Royal Chicken. Both dishes were excellent, the Royal Chicken had the right amount of spice, the additions he asked for were there, the portion was great. My Orange Shrimp were cooked PERFECTLY. Crispy outside and succulent inside. In fact, we decided to order again on Thursday, Jan 6th, and I wanted more of the Orange Shrimp. On this night they weren't very busy, three orders waiting for takeout and about three tables with customers. My husband ordered the Massaman noodles which were good, but even though he ordered medium + on the spice, they were less spicy than the Royal Chicken he had the previous night at medium spice. Unfortunately, the shrimp were marginal at best. The oil was not hot enough and they came out very greasy and not crispy at all. They almost looked like they were boiled. In addition, no Orange sauce was provided. Fortunately, we have an air fryer which made them at least edible and had some sauce left over from the previous night. We also ordered fried rice which turned out to be brown rice with scrambled egg in it, no seasoning or any other vegetables even though it says onion, tomato and broccoli. The egg rolls we ordered were also not terribly good. In fact, tonight's meal was no better than frozen P.F. Changs out of the grocery store at four times the price. We haven't been to Narai in a while, but decided to give them another try yesterday. After tonight's meal, it will be a while before we come back. We want to support local restaurants, but not at these prices...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start by saying that our wait staff did their best considering an abysmal lack of personnel to handle the dinner rush. I observed that a majority of the tables were filled around the same time for dinner service creating a rush for orders. A single waitress was available to take orders and provide refills, etc. I must say that she did a great job considering the situation. It appears that the owners were not prepared to ensure the dining experience was relaxing and prompt. She was the lone reason we didnāt bail on ordering food and opting for another dining option.
I enjoyed my Panang curry which was served at a medium spice that I enjoyed. The chicken and shrimp were cooked well and still had some moisture and pleasing texture. My wife ordered the beef salad which was a bit salty for her preference but still good enough for her to finish the dish entirely. We did note that the vegetable components for the dishes were basic Chinese food fare and not to Thai style quality. A good beer selection tops off what can be a good meal, but the lack of prompt service due to a lack of enough wait staff detracted from the experience. There are a lot of options in this range for Thai food in the area, and I donāt believe Narai presents enough uniqueness or a good first impression to draw us back a second time.
I caveat this by saying that this could have just been a bad night for the staff, but from other reviews this appears to be a growing trend. Give it a chance at least and decide for yourself. The food is ok, and may please the masses if the service holds up their end of the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family patrons this place quite often. I ate in the restaurant a few weeks ago, but had a terrible experience for the first time. A needy person was in the restaurant was inside when my young children and I arrived. We were seated. The needy person asked why he wasnāt being seated. Shortly after a visible back and forth with staff, a man angrily stomped in and slammed his hands on the table in front of the needy man and yelled at him. He yelled at him to get out and further went on. He yelled as he stomped back to the door right past our table and basically shoved the man out. He made a huge scene and after didnāt come apologize. My kids were completely shocked and felt totally uncomfortable, as did I. My daughter wanted to leave and does not want to return. I canāt blame her after seeing an adult act that way. Our waiter told me it was the owner. It was unprofessional and lacked respect for the manās dignity. I am sure there are situations as business owners where dealing with certain individuals gets old. However, being a business owner means remaining professional in front of patrons. I was so disappointed that the owner acted this way in front me and most importantly, in front of my two young impressionable children. This was also right before Thanksgiving and it was freezing cold outside. After we finished eating, I left with a meal looking for this man but sadly couldnāt find him. This is not how adults should lead by example whether itās for children or your own staff, nor how anyone should show empathy for humanity. I hope they do better...
