Original post: This place was great! Since we walked in, everyone was welcoming. Since we were new here, they let us sample some of the ice cream. And this was without them knowing how we came across them. (My daughter was sad because she missed ice cream they were served at school. I told her I would take her to get ice cream and proceeded to type in the search engine: "the best ice cream in Colorado Springs" This was the first recommendation and we didn't bother to look at the rest of the results.) We were amazed with the great reviews , we showed up and oh my heaven, the cajeta ice cream was soooo good. My husband also got something he had been looking for for a while. Mangonada. Seriously in love with this place. We bought some of the papas locas and elote en vaso for my SIL and she was delighted.
Edit: when things seem too good to be true, they usually are. Since this review from our first, we have returned 3 times. On first ocassion, they were closed on regular business hours with no explanation on the door. Ok, life happens. We shrugged and move on. When we returned on another occasion hungry for cajeta ice cream, the only ice cream was vanilla. No other option. Okay? Ordered the papas and were told they were out. What? This was early in the day too. Third time we ordered a milkshake and were told they didn't have the supplies for it. And after seeing no cajeta ice cream... again... I am seeing a pattern here. I will forever remember and treasure that first time we went and bow out. Wish them the best, as they are nice people, but I don't think they know how to run a successful...
Read moreMy husband and I recently moved to the area and O.M.G. This place is amazing!!! We literally live right across the street and so we had to go and try it. When you walk in, you notice the brilliant Mexican culture with a large mural with Frida Kahlo painted. They also have current/modern movies and sometimes documentaries playing on the flat screen which is very cool. But the food and ice cream is out of this world. My favorite items to get are the mazapan shake (peanut butter and caramel drizzle with whipped cream and cookie on top) with a large, hot and fresh churro on the side (only about $7) which is a very hearty size. Also, there nachos which are only about $3 come in a large to go box and they are smothered in nacho cheese and jalepenos- a classic snack. They are so incredibly friendly and they will bring your food and snacks to you! I recommend this family friendly and cultured restaurant to every one in...
